Canadians in general are THE most welcoming people to all individuals (singles, couples, families) who are well behaved.
Large groups or congregations who behave 'badly' in the terms of Canadian Society: noisy, unruly, threatening, breaking laws (even minor ones) will be discriminated against.
If this unruly group just happens to be some kind of visible minority, well then there's a problem that 'the group' and 'the media' like to play up... Why? Because they can, and it's good for ratings!
Personally, if I hear somebody complaining with any kind of a non-traditional accent or look or name, anything they must be carefully evaluated...
For example: if a complainer looks or sounds foreign, I judge the thing he's complaining about as if it were in his home country, and frankly he should be happy he can whine at all. In the absence of facts, one should always assume the worst (which is the opposite of Canadian thinking, we usually give the benefit of the doubt) cuz most foreigners have learned that omitting the more incriminating facts makes them look more 'hard done-by', and when we later find out 'the whole story', we might then 'write-off' their whole race, unfortunately...
Banks treat everybody shitty (were the tellers white? or 'other' like at my bank) and are liable for any mistakes... The guy coulda just used a machine or photo-deposit; if he was a young-looking white guy with tattoos wearing a hoodie he'd probably have problems too!
