No real problems with security other then my briefcase tends to get a fairly through going over with all the crap I lug around. Only complaint I have about the nuvi is that it won't operate with a standard mini-b usb car charger. If you turn it off it will charge but you can't run it while plugged in. Not a big deal but it is a slight pain in the ass since it means one extra cable I have to pack. Seems to be a common issue since I picked up a similar unit made by Mio (which incidentally is a piece of shit) and it has the same issue.
With my first unit, I had a problem in one of the US airports, as I passed the scanner, the portable dash mount that I use, (sand bag type thing) I guess it shows up on their scanner, the first guy was asking me to show him how it worked, but it took me 15 minutes of me trying to explain to him I needed a car lighter, to plug it in! Finally I guess his supervisor came by, and saw it, and knew what it was, actually was thinking about one himself, so he let me go, and suggested I pass with the electric pug that also comes with the unit, as it would save problem down the road. I have never been asked again been bothered again after that, from time to time they ask what it is, and they look at it, but at least they don't ask for me to start it like my laptop. I passed with my battery out of my laptop once, O BOY it took 20 minutes of questions to pass US customs.
I am happy to hear you can carry it on the plane, as I don't like to bag check anything breakable or that I can't afford to have stollen in my bags.
I am still playing with this new 2820, it's like having a new girlfriend, she has all these new features, postal code look-up, you can enter a GPS location, dam, looks like I need to go for a road trip soon! I am telling you this is an great Gadget... wait, let me rephrase that (Company expense) this is a tremendous work tool!!!
