"Actress Brittany Murphy died at age, 32, after she reportedly went into full cardiac arrest and could not be revived.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Spokeswoman Sally Stewart told the Associated Press Murphy died at 10:04 a.m. Sunday. She would not provide a cause of death, or any other information.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Devon Gale says crews responded to a call at 8 a.m. Sunday from a home in Los Angeles that is listed as belonging to British screenwriter Simon Monjack, who is married to Murphy. Gale says one person was transported to a hospital.

Messages left for Murphy's manager, agent and publicist weren't immediately returned.

TMZ reports Murphy's mother found the actress unconscious in the shower, and was in full cardiac arrest and started CPR.

The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office is reportedly launching an investigation into Murphy's death, according to TMZ.

Born Nov. 10, 1977 in Atlanta, Murphy grew up in New Jersey and later moved with her mother to Los Angeles to pursue acting.

Her career started in the early 1990s with small roles in television series, commercials and movies. She is best known for parts in "Girl, Interrupted," "Clueless" and "8 Mile."

Her on-screen roles declined in recent years, but Murphy's voice gave life to numerous animated characters, including Luanne Platter on more than 200 episodes of Fox's "King of the Hill" and Gloria the penguin in "Happy Feet."

She is due to appear in Sylvester Stallone's upcoming film, "The Expendables," set for release next year.

Her role in "8 Mile" led to more recognition, Murphy told The Associated Press in 2003. "That changed a lot," she said

Murphy credited her mother, Sharon, with being a key to her success.

"When I asked my mom to move to California, she sold everything and moved out here for me," Murphy told the AP in 2003. "I was really grateful to have grown up in an environment that was conducive to creating and didn't stifle any of that. She always believed in me."

She dated Ashton Kutcher, who costarred with Murphy in 2003's romantic comedy "Just Married."

Kutcher tweeted Sunday morning about Murphy's death: "2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine," Kutcher wrote. "My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany's family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon."

Sad that one so (relatively) young has died. But as an actress, I've never heard of her. I looked her up as a result of this thread & still cannot picture her in any role. Pretty, but looks just like 50 other mid-level actresses of her generation. Her filmography appears to be a long collection of relatively inconsequential parts.

So, I'll mourn her passing as a fellow human being, but suspect that the entertainment industry will little feel her passing.
I totally knew who she was! I heard on the radio and I knew right away which actress she was. So Sad :(

Let's not speculate until the facts come out. There's plenty of other reasons for cardiac arrest in young people: undetected heart malfunctions, allergies, complications from diabetes.
And too much wild sex and too much work and not enough time to rest and so on.......

I don't think coke was her drug of choice...but regardless...someone lost a daughter today.....

Hollywood has an amazing talent at screwing up young lives and spiitng them out from the grinder....

Passing

It's very sad news today. I called my sister to let her know, but she had already heard, from a friend. She's very upset. She had seen all her movies, and had just watched Just Married last week.

It's always sad when someone passes away. An actress, race car driver, teacher, or anyone else. 32 yrs old is far to young to die. I feel for her family. May she rest in peace.

I was actually putting on 8mile when someone asked me what I was doing and I told them and I was informed of her passing. I am convinced that it was an od, if it wasnt I would be very surprised...cardiac arrest in the shower early Sunday morning.

She was on the way to this for awhile. Her rep in la was one of hardest partiers on the strip alla tara ried fame. Perez Hilton predicted her as the next OD death in hollywood a week after Heath ledger died. He was sadly right.

My favorite Brittany Murphy movie is " Little Black Book ". Quite inspiring. Reminds me of Melanie Griffith's " Working Girl " theme. It's truly sad to lose a talented actress. Just gotta be thankful for your blessings. :)

Happily Ever After!
LOS ANGELES - Brittany Murphy died from pneumonia, but anemia and prescription drugs also played a role, coroner's officials said Thursday.

The primary cause of the death was community acquired pneumonia, with contributing factors of iron deficiency anemia and "multiple drug intoxication," according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

The death was ruled accidental.

Coroner's spokesman Craig Harvey declined to specify what types of drugs were involved in Murphy's death but said they were all prescription medications. Details about the drugs the "Clueless" and "8 Mile" star had in her system will be released in several weeks when a complete report is done.

Murphy died Dec. 20 at age 32 after collapsing at her Hollywood Hills home. Her mother and husband have said the actress didn't abuse prescription medications or have an eating disorder.

Attempts to reach them for further comment were unsuccessful.

Murphy's husband, Simon Monjack and mother, Sharon Murphy, told investigators the actress had been experiencing flu-like symptoms in the days before she died.

Monjack told The Associated Press last month that his wife did take several prescriptions, including an anti-seizure drug, but did not abuse the medications.

He said she had been taking over-the-counter Robitussin for her ailments.

A memorial for a foundation in Brittany Murphy's name that had been planned for Thursday was abruptly canceled, with no explanation.
