Dec. 7 1941 Pearl harbor was attacked , On a Sunday morning

I was looking up some of the stats and there were less people killed and injured in this act of war then were killed and injured on 911.

Only 2745 or so were killed over half died when the battle ship Arizona brew up and sank .

It has taken over 60 ears for the whole story to come out , of why it happened . and still there are secrets

In the grand scheme of things Japan fucked up with the attack on Pearl....the attack hit battleship row which by no means was a bad target but they did not get a single aircraft carrier...if they had gotten the flatdecks it would have changed the entire outcome of the USA's response as well as the ability to engage Japan. In attacking the USA Japan woke up a sleeping tiger.

And actually it happened 70 years ago.

Given the lack of technology in the day, the Japanese did hit a home run that day. They had hoped for lethal blow but it never materialized.

Radar was in its infancy and no where near its accuracy that we have today. They were literally finding a needle in a haystack if they were to hit an Aircraft Carrier without scoping out the targets ahead of time which would have destroyed their element of surprise.

All in all a very sad day that started a four year war in the Pacific with huge losses on all sides.

My Great Uncle who was with the British Foreign Services died in a Japanese Concentration Camp in Malaysia. RIP.

IIRC, the US carriers were out doing maneuvers that day, thus they weren't in the area to be targeted.

"A date which will live in infamy", the truly sad event had one extremely positive consequence. It was the event that allowed the US to enter the war against Hitler in Europe. I am not a fan of war, but I do believe it is sometimes necessary. Pearl Harbor itself had fewer casualties then 911, but the ramifications were greater. Not to belittle 911 at all, I had family in the world trade center the week before the attack, I've had friends deployed in Afghanistan one with bombs flying over their head being the one with his head out the top of an armored vehicle. Pearl Harbor not only lead to the long battle in the pacific, it ultimately lead to the atomic bomb. How many more would have died without the war ending from the bomb... who knows? How many lives were lost or impacted from the bomb... I don't know that the number is truly countable... How many more lives would have been destroyed in Europe had the US not come to aid England in pushing back the Nazi's? These events had such profound impact on our world and the lives of billions.

Pearl Harbor, 911, D-day, V-day... these are all things that should never be forgotten and need to be shared to younger folks who don't know. Next remembrance day find every veteran selling poppies that you can, shake their hand and say thank you! I try to every year.
