I've proven guys like you wrong numerous times when I was a young athlete who ate junk food but was still competitive.

It wasn't until I tried bodybuilding at a competitive level that I had to change my dietary habits.

Was done in 2 stints. 220 to 160. 160 to 105. Didn't like being a spinner (I didn't find having 3 ribs showing at all times without sucking it in sexy at all), so I gained 15lbs of muscle.
You lost a supermodel and her dog! :D



But seriously, that is quite the accomplishment. Good for you! I agree that at your height, 105 is a little scrawny and unhealthy. You're definitely better off in the 120-130 range.

sure one can be competitive as an "athlete" when it comes to a particular sport, but that has more to do with skill and ability...

when it comes to sculpting one's body, which I believe what this thread is about, diet is critical...

That may be true if you are over 40 but for the majority of active folks under middle age -
EXERCISE if the major factor in whether or not they get or stay fit!

There is so much scientific data on this it would boggle the mind.

Look in the news & you will see how there is a big push on now to get physical education back into schools or more prominent.

Read about endicronology & you will see that as you age your intestinal system becomes less effective & coupled with your aging this puts even more pressure on your diet.

Bottom line though -
EXERCISE is KING!!!!

Study the body's response to exercise & you will see it can even change the way in which you process the calories you intake regardless of what it is you intake.

The physiological response to exercise is a matter of scientific fact here - there really is no argument.

I mean, it only counts if some anonymous online people agree that you have it & Adriana says I never did anything in fitness so poof! - there it goes!

Might as well add my BCRPA Certified Weight Trainer to that as well.

have to disagree,
i eat and drink as much as i can consume.
especially beer,
i burn it off, three hours of hard biking five days a week, my comute to work, and on my weekened, i usaully fit somthing else in,
im in my mid fifties, my resting heart rate in mid season goes down to about fifty five fifty eight, i have put guys half my age to shame out on the bike path.
that being said i agree i could have a better diet,
but diet is not 90 percent,


the best quote i ever heard about fitness, and i truely believe this,
was from a ultra marathon runner,

he said 90 percent is mental.
and the other ten percent its mental as well.

zone diet is the best
easy to understand and the effects of the macro breakdown works right away
mood is stable and no need/desire to binge on shit food

I lent my copy to a friend a couple years ago & haven't seen it since.

Sears does a great job detailing the effects food has on our bodies & how to balance your intake as well as how to reduce inflammation caused by reactions to foods through increased intake of fatty acids & polyphenols.

I've not been on this diet for over 6 years & now that I'm older I can feel the effect of the inflammation in my joints.

Time to hit up my friend for that book!

Training has been going good, lots of room service messed it all up for a bit but I have ran that all off.

I've been making my own running gels (recipes from the internet and running books). Here's one I like, I use organic ingredients:

7 and 1/3 tablespoons of honey
3/4 teaspoons of blackstrap molasses
1/10 teaspoons (just shy of 1/8 tsp) of table salt
Be sure to mix everything together well. It should make enough to fill a five-serving GU flask.

I stopped drinking slurpees, cut out some of my alcoholic tendencies and quit eating so much sugar. I stopped drinking a vanilla latte each day and switched to green tea with honey and I I can't believe how fast the fat fell off by just cutting out sugar and making sure I was eating at least 75% raw food in my diet each day.

I've lost 15 pounds of fat since I started this thread, I was eating a lot of take out food and too much sugar.

For the past two months I've been cooking 90% of my food (when I'm not on tour) and running, biking at least two or three times with one cheat day to eat whatever I want. (thanks for the tips Jodie & Veronica! they work!!)

I haven't signed up for the triathlon yet but I feel like I wouldn't do too bad if I ran it this weekend. Another month or two and I will be ready.
