About a month or so ago, Criminal Minds (tv show) had an episode on where they tracked a guy down who kidnapped women and then fed them to pigs, etc (gross, I know).

Anyways, after I watched the show, I was thinking if it resembled what happened in BC and Robert Picton. In the tv show, they showed a whole bunch of shoes,...and the killer had a brother who was a parapalegic.

Just wondering if there are any similarities to what actually happened in BC?

Similarities as far as:
- Did Picton have a brother?
- I thought Picton had used a grinder?
- Were the women actually fed to the pigs?

I found it canny that Criminal Minds would take such an event as horrific as these murders and do a TV show about them. They portrayed it in Ontario..and the murderer went across the border, kidnapped the women from a shelter, then took then by car (and boat) back to his farm.

I'm just wondering if what was seen in this show was actually based on facts of what actually happened?

comments?

Criminal minds does this all the time. I love that show. They take what happens in real life and change a few key ingredients to protect the victims. It was totally based on what really happened.

The beheading on the bus is not far off, I am sure.

I think there have been two shows that did episodes based on the Picton murders. That episode from Criminal Minds is a rerun from either last season or the previous one. I believe there were a number of similarities as well as a lot of dramatical ad-ins. Wasn't the farm in Canada? And most of the victims were street workers?

The 'Picton' episode of Criminal Minds was the 2 hour season finale from last season. Cliffhanger is whether Hotchner survives his encounter with the omnivore at the end of the episode... can't wait for the new season to start.

Yes, the farm was in Ontario and the girls were runaways that cashed their welfare cheques at a hotel on skidrow. It was creepy when they found the hundreds of runners knowing what really happened *shudder*

They were probably inspired by Pickton, but he was hardly the first killer in history to feed victims to pigs. Just one of the most recent, one of the most prolific, and one of the most widely reported. There's a theory that Willie (Robert) wasn't the real mastermind (and I use the term loosely) behind all of the murders and that, although Willie was involved to one extent or another, it's really his brother David who was the driving force behind it. I have no idea if there's any truth to that, but if so, I sincerely hope that David gets his just desserts.
