I went through the entire explanation in a Victoria Secret from a woman who has been sizing bras since before I was born. She measured my ex and had her try on various bras to show how it worked.Actually you are almost right. It is not always plus 5 inches. For instance I wear a 32A -- trust me my ribcage is not 27 inches, my ribcage is actually 30 inches. The added inches are for ease of movement fyi and are proportional to the woman's size. If you added 5 inches to my measurement it would be 20% extra and my bra would just fall off
The cup size is a measure of the DIFFERENCE between the rib cage and the around bust measurements. So while a 40A and a 32A technically are the same cup it looks different on the two women. For me, for instance, as a 32A the measurement around my boobs is 1" larger than the measurement around my ribs. Equates to nice little boobs big enough to fill a hand. BUT if my ribcage were 40inches and my around boob measurement were 41inches I'd be a 40A and you would barely see the boobs.
That is really strange, if I wore a 35 bra it would just fall off my body lolI went through the entire explanation in a Victoria Secret from a woman who has been sizing bras since before I was born. She measured my ex and had her try on various bras to show how it worked.
My ex measured 25" around the ribs under the boobs, and a 30 bra fit her perfectly on the middle hook.
The cup size of the 30 bra that fit her perfectly was a C cup.
She could also wear a 32 bra on the smallest hook, but then she had to wear a B cup.
The woman took the 30C and the 32B bra as well as a 34A and held up the cups together and the cups on all three were an exact match. There was NO difference in the cup size between the three, just in the spacing between the cups and the length of the straps.
One trick that she showed us was that if you wear a bra with a smaller number and bigger cup and use a strap extender, it makes better cleavage because the cups are closer together in the front. Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to find a 28D bra so it didn't work for my ex.
btw she also took a tape measure and showed us that the bras middle hooks were all between 4-5" closer together than the size #. But that only applies to bras that don't have 'stretchy' straps. totally doesn't work for sports-bra type bras with elastic straps.
Your ribcage measurement is probably less than you think. You can't measure it yourself because your arms have to be relaxed and hanging at your sides. Lifting them up opens up your ribcage. That is really strange, if I wore a 35 bra it would just fall off my body lol
Angel ... let's be honest here.I'm asking for MALE comments as to whether they would prefer the actual sizing of 30H be listed, and whether they would even comprehend what that meant.
So!most men have no clue what bra sizes mean! LOL![]()
You misunderstood what I was saying. Of course there is a difference between different cup sizes. A 36C and a 36D are quite different.(sorry Island Guy it does NOT work the way you say the chick at Victoria Secret said & there is definitely a difference between cup sizes!)
Here, I even googled it, read the WHOLE thing, ........
And there's even pictures, so the link is worth clicking on!!!

Sorry Island Guy, not trying to be argumentative, but unless I'm misinterpreting what you're saying, it makes no sense & I think you have misunderstood something. Here, I even googled it, read the WHOLE thing, especially the part at the bottom where it explains how the letter goes down when the number goes up and vice versa.
And there's even pictures, so the link is worth clicking on!!!

That means that regardless of what the band size (which is the measurement in inches of the circumference the bust) is, the cup size is a letter that represents how many inches the difference between the measurement around the ribcage & the measurement around the actual breasts is. A woman with 3 inches difference will always be a C cup, regardless of what her measurements in inches are. So a B is always "bigger" proportionally (to the woman's body/ribcage) than an A & so on. Just because a 36A may be close in volume to a 34B does not mean they are the same size, or that a woman could wear either size. The way that you are interpreting things, a 36A would be equal to a 34B, which would be equal to a 32C, which would be equal to a 30D, which would be equal to a 28DD & so on, but that is definitely not the case. A D cup on a tiny woman could be the same volume as a B cup on a medium-sized woman, but that does not mean they are the "same" size or that they could switch bras. The same volume of breast tissue can look very different depending on how big around a woman's ribcage is. Bra cup size is a measurement of a woman's breasts in proportion to her body. Just like my breasts would look massive on a woman half my size & she would wear a completely different bra size (both the cup size & the band size would be different), but they would still be the same volume. Bra size or cup size is not a measurement of the actual volume of the breasts. I guess what you are thinking is that because the bra cup may hold approx the same volume in, say, a 34B & a 36C, that that means they are the exact same & are interchangable. If that were the case, cup sizes would be useless & we would all wear DDDs. I guess you could say that a 36B is technically "bigger" than a 30D, because it is bigger in volume, but what I think most people mean or think of when they say "bigger" is that the breasts stick out furthur & are larger in proportion to the woman's body. It's just like a woman with a 28" waist who is 5'8" is slimmer than a woman with a 26" waist who is 5'2", even though her waist is actually a larger circumference. Is this making sense??The number of the difference, [between the circumference of your ribcage and the circumference of your bust] is your cup size. A cup = 1 inch difference, B cup = 2 inch, C cup = 3 inch, D cup = 4 inch, DD cup = 5 inch and so on.
me too!Personally I really like breasts, & I like breasts of all sizes.![]()
