Been gone for a week and wow, everyone is all hot and bothered. But understandable.

So I spent the last 4 days in New York with banking types. They are all glum. On the one hand, many of them figure that they are agile enough to make money trading the markets and most are confident that they can handle things to a degree. But they seem to all agree that the world economy is on the road to being fucked and that Trump is a major reason. These guys were citing recession in China, slowness in Europe, etc. And they said that yup, it would be necessary to lower the bank rates to juice economies and maybe even do some level of quantitative easing. But then they started talking about the US. Everyone is predicting that the US is headed into a recession but that they will suffer a special kind of hell - primarily due to the tariffs. With the tariffs creating inflation in a recessionary economy, the solution cannot simply come from lowering the fed rate. Instead, they said the long term pain in the US would be worse (stagflation) than elsewhere with some advising to look into European assets, not because these are better but because their relative decline will be less. And they said that the work is re-organizing itself to be less dependent on the US.

I have spent my life building things and I am glad that I am close to the end of my career. What struck me was the unwillingness of the money to invest long term. Nobody wants to to that because the American situation is so uncertain (they told me not to use the word 'chaotic' as I will make trouble for myself). They are predicting lots of volatility in the markets, up to new heights even before an eventual crash. The only thing that most of them seemed to like was some level of gold among assets. But at the same time, they weren't willing to lend to new gold producers because that would be a long term investment.

Well, at least New York was nice. First 3 days, nice weather. Everyone was polite and it was relatively fun. I didn't spend any money as people were buying me dinner and plying me with drinks. The only thing was that I had to wear my damn suit all days long.......
Glad you had a good time !

Yes things went to hell today in this thread as you can see ...lots of misinformation and uninformed people chatting about the Israeli Gaza conflict.

Put that suit under lock and a big warning sign on the cover in case you are tempted to wear it again...lol

But I really don’t think anybody wants Vance lol

Of course not. Tampon tim said he's weird and fucks couches...
Nothing wrong with making sure everybody who needs period products has access to them.

Tim never said Vance was a couch fucker. That was a rumor made up by I don’t remember and then everybody ran with it.

Vance was chosen because after pence, Trump needed somebody without morals to back him in everything he did.

Lmao

He started by scratching the TPP because it was not his, by making the bids for Russia, helping China Japan South Korea "Of All Countries" to come up with a trade agreement, easing China influence into developing countries in Africa /South America/Island Nations, pushing Canada toward Europe as well as helping Canada /Mexico to bypass the US , pushing Europe to avoid trading with the US and assert themselves, pissing off BRICS members , crippling debt that he keeps making it worse, forcing countries to pivot away from the US dollar, making a yoyo game with the bond market. I could go on but its getting late .

If everybody stops depending, relying or being influenced by the US .... How does that renew the US as a superpower with a diminished influence ? They were already the only kid on the block with a small challenge from China in the coming years and India in a few decades .

Gotta get that Windex out and scrub the glass in your bubble to see what's out there.

Not a majority at all. Over 68% did not vote for Trump.

The MAJORITY of people that VOTED, VOTED for Trump. It doesn't matter what percentage of people VOTED. Trump won a MAJORITY of the popular VOTE and more importantly won a MAJORITY in the electoral college. That's how the US system works. I put some words in CAPITALS to make it easier for you to UNDERSTAND.

Everybody understands that Trump won the 2024 election just like he lost 2020 and won 2016. But people are simply annoyed by the mindless constantly repeating that he has a huge mandate from the American people. Sorry but that isn't true. Yes, he got enough votes and electoral college votes to win but does he have the mandate to change American society? No, but he already has to an extent. And in my view, negatively.

Apparently "Westwoody" did not get the memo. You can argue all day about mandate or no mandate or how much of a mandate. It doesn't matter. If Trump had won the electoral college by one vote he still would have become President. It's also important to note that the Republicans hold a majority in the house and the senate. The majority of the supreme court is conservative. I understand that supreme court judges are not elected but generally the makeup of the court is reflective of the current political climate. They American population has been trending more conservative for a number of years. The Republicans are even making gains in New York and California. Trump got elected not because he was so amazing, he got elected because the American people (a majority of them) repudiated what the Democratic party had to offer. Americans didn't want millions of illegal immigrants. Americans didn't want waste and corruption. Americans didn't want ridiculous woke social policies. The majority of the American people rejected the lies and gaslighting of mainstream media and the Democratic party. So, mandate or repudiation, it doesn't matter.
Sorry if people are annoyed. In four years they can vote for whoever they want. In the meantime they can just suck it up.

People won't suck it up and bow to Trump and his minions despite them having control. Just like those minions never sucked it up when Obama was in office. We have the right to be annoyed and to criticize if we think things are wrong. Just because Trump and his followers won this round means nothing about being right.

"Largely verbal" Lol! Is that like the "Largely peaceful" BLM riots? The "open air prison " is another fallacy. I'm not going to waste time explaining it all to you because you've probably spent a long time drinking the Palestinians are victims Kool aid. Interesting that the Arab/Muslim countries have no interest in having "Palestinians" come to their countries. I wonder why?
Well what do you call it then when you've lived your whole life in a 20 km strip of land are restricted from leaving? Please cite information that corrects me on this point. That Palestinians can come and go as they please.

It's great that we people on this board who have the "inside info". It's secret stuff that we wouldn’t otherwise know. Super helpful.
Political financing.... who has the purse has the strings and you know it .

Don't tell us you can't recognize a political whore when you see one . Look at Vance's interviews pre Thiel financing and post for a reminder and see the contrasting views if you have never seen them .

well in a nutshell, Geesus!
on the other hand, love New York. For a city of its volume, it really works. At some time, I plan on spending a couple of months there, become a faux NewYawker for a while.
