Glad you had a good time !Been gone for a week and wow, everyone is all hot and bothered. But understandable.
So I spent the last 4 days in New York with banking types. They are all glum. On the one hand, many of them figure that they are agile enough to make money trading the markets and most are confident that they can handle things to a degree. But they seem to all agree that the world economy is on the road to being fucked and that Trump is a major reason. These guys were citing recession in China, slowness in Europe, etc. And they said that yup, it would be necessary to lower the bank rates to juice economies and maybe even do some level of quantitative easing. But then they started talking about the US. Everyone is predicting that the US is headed into a recession but that they will suffer a special kind of hell - primarily due to the tariffs. With the tariffs creating inflation in a recessionary economy, the solution cannot simply come from lowering the fed rate. Instead, they said the long term pain in the US would be worse (stagflation) than elsewhere with some advising to look into European assets, not because these are better but because their relative decline will be less. And they said that the work is re-organizing itself to be less dependent on the US.
I have spent my life building things and I am glad that I am close to the end of my career. What struck me was the unwillingness of the money to invest long term. Nobody wants to to that because the American situation is so uncertain (they told me not to use the word 'chaotic' as I will make trouble for myself). They are predicting lots of volatility in the markets, up to new heights even before an eventual crash. The only thing that most of them seemed to like was some level of gold among assets. But at the same time, they weren't willing to lend to new gold producers because that would be a long term investment.
Well, at least New York was nice. First 3 days, nice weather. Everyone was polite and it was relatively fun. I didn't spend any money as people were buying me dinner and plying me with drinks. The only thing was that I had to wear my damn suit all days long.......
Yes things went to hell today in this thread as you can see ...lots of misinformation and uninformed people chatting about the Israeli Gaza conflict.
Put that suit under lock and a big warning sign on the cover in case you are tempted to wear it again...lol
