Trudeau is crying because he knows there are no good options for Canada. Justin knows that when the economic hurricane hits Canada, he will be blamed. Read about the current economies in China and the EU and then compare both to the current economic conditions in Canada. I am talking the specific fundamentals, the numbers do not lie. I think you will discover Canada is far worse. Now add the future defense expenditures for NATO, the EU and Canadian taxpayers will cough up. The US stock market is currently suffering from Biden’s spending spree to shore up the economy before the election. The Inflation reduction act put foam on the runway to cushion the impact of his policy decisions. Without huge tax increases, a government cannot continue to support those that do not support themselves. Joe knew if he won, who cares, he is in for four years, if he lost, Trump will be blamed. The DJIA is not reacting to this tariff stuff. It is simply running out of the money Joe printed to boost it.
I can lead a horse to water but cannot make it drink. Im not going to try to convince people in denial there will be plenty of fantastic investment opportunities in Canada for investors that have a 5-7 year time horizon, of which I intend to capitalize. I make my money work so I don’t have to and I suggest those in position do the same! Most of you, for whatever reason cannot understand, your politicians took years to create this mess. Do not believe all the chest thumping from your politicians that got you into this mess. Read the second and third articles attached. Buy low sell high and tell Trudeau girls cry!

You make many valid points but you also have many blind spots where your preconceptions seem to be tailoring your response.
Absolutely there are no good options for Canada in a trade war... we're simply going to have to work with the many bad options we have. You're optimistic if you think we'll blame Justin.. even those that hate Justin will blame Trump.
Most Canadians viscerally understand the massive impact that the disruption with out closest, biggest trading partner will have. We've been seeking to diversify our trade relationships ever since the last time Trump was in office and did the same thing. We've had some success, not enough but some. The main thing that this has done has pulled the blinders from the majority of Canadians eyes.. we've literally given preferential treatment in consideration to the USA for every deal we've made with other countries. We've always had the understanding that our relationship with the USA comes first and foremost before anyone else. This has been a great strength and like many strengths has become a great weakness.
We all acknowledge that now... Yes we will likely come to some form of agreement with the USA - likely one that they benefit from more than we will.. but we won't sit idle. We will work going forward to minimize the effect that the USA has on us building better relationships with global partners that share our ideals like the EU.
You're right. We're going to suffer economically. We're going to make hard decisions. You're crazy if you think that we'll ever give up our sovereignty to the USA.
And please put your money to work on opportunities in Canada over the next 5-7 years, we're happy for the investment and we want the Canadian endeavours you fund to succeed as much as you do. That's very thoughtful of you.
We could go on forever about how Trump is a conman and what he's really doing isn't in the interests of anyone but himself, as he and his allies rape and pillage the USA, but it's a dead horse. You either believe it or you don't, and no amount of facts or logic is going to sway either side. I've already stated my opinion of Trump. Nothing that I've learned since has changed my opinion. Maybe I'm just biased but I don't think so.
The effects of Trump's actions on the USA? MAGA? Perhaps in the short term.. but it is my opinion that the USA will suffer a lot of short term pain - mostly felt by the lower and middle class, followed by a lot of long term term systemic pain as the USA tries to rebuild everything damaged and destroyed in the meantime. That will be the inward focused results that the USA will feel.
What they won't feel until it is too late is the result of the loss of goodwill that has happened because of Trump. The clear understanding that we don't want the USA to be on top anymore and we're all looking for ways to ensure that is the end result. The USA will no longer be the preferred trade partner for anyone with any common sense. It is likely that countries will look to their own currencies rather than the USD as a trade currency, similarly to BRICS, sure we'll do business with the USA, but they will no longer be our preference more like one of those bad choices that we have no choice but to stomach until we have a better option.
It's hard to look favorably on countries that have convicted felons leading them who illegally break trade agreements that they themselves signed and touted as the best deal ever done. Try and convince me that Canada is a threat to National Security justifying breaking our trade agreement. Good luck with that.
But you're right... Canada is going to go through a period, probably a long period of difficulty if this isn't resolved soon. Too bad it's too late for the USA to recover any of the goodwill they've lost.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
