I know it currently applies to US policy, however it is said Canada will follow suit eventually.

From the Financial Post:

https://financialpost.com/technology/tiktok-ban-what-it-means-for-canada

"What does a potential U.S. ban mean for Canada?

If the U.S. follows through with the ban on TikTok, “Canada will be hard-pressed not to take similar action,” said Vivek Krishnamurthy, director of the University of Colorado Boulder’s Technology Law and Policy Clinic and former law professor at the University of Ottawa who recently served on Canada’s online safety expert advisory group. Even if Ottawa abstains from a full ban, a U.S. ban means that Canadian users could experience a “degraded version” of TikTok, he said. “I would expect that a significant percentage of TikTok Canadian traffic is served from infrastructure in the U.S. It seems to me that if TikTok goes dark in the U.S., Canadian users are likely to feel an impact.” The Canadian government has not commented on the U.S. bill or announced any similar action. TikTok Canada declined to comment but confirmed that the app remains available in Canada."

...basically how I'm reading this, is that Tik Tok will be a buggy POS app with no support.

I don't mind tik tok. Its got a lot of cool stuff that I'm into. I like it better now than Fakebook. Fakebook sucks!!

I think the TikTok issue will work out. I'm positive on it. I hope it stays.

There's not much to really work out. It's just a ninety day delay of the inevitable. They don't seem the least bit interested in following the law that will still be implemented after ninety days, anyways.

Kevin O'Leary is also showing some interest and wants be involved in the action. He does business on it apparently. So yes, there's some serious money being placed behind the scenes with this. It'll survive.

With Musk and other tech bros in Trump's ear, Tik Tok isn't going anywhere

I won’t shed a tear if TT gets shut down. Instagram, X, et al can all go dodo too. So much useless mind-numbing drivel.

Social media has become the devolution of society imho. It’s not very“Social” at all imho, it’s mostly just a bunch of shitty media—Jerry Springer train wreck snippets, extremist mis-information, haters, fakers, dolts, spams, scams, useless twats, and the occaisional funny meme. Oh, and how to grow turnips from cut-off tops!

I find some virtue in FB marketplace, cuz I can buy teck cable and disturbing garden knomes at 40 cents on the dollar. And FB community groups are useful to connect with like-minded peops, but otherwise, all soc-med is a bunch of idiots spouting off about innane crap and speculating on topics they know nothing about.

PERB is much higher up in the gene pool, even though we don’t always see eye-to-eye on politics, religion, texting apps, and LL fake pics, but hey, at least we have a co-dependent dysfunctional family atmosphere here, rather than the rampant random WOT shit show 💩 on the biggie dirt feeds.

Can’t wait for the boomarang phenomenon to wash this blight from out lives. Bring back house-party’s, speakeasy’s, and the live soap box in the park!

Trump is advocating for at least 50% American ownership.
In other words he is extorting the current owners to sell at a huge discount to one of his cronies.
Exactly what the mafia does.

Tik Tok might not be going anywhere, but ownership of it will.

It's going to be interesting to see if Trump defies the Supreme Court and how they will react to it.

I think TikTok will stay at least for now. Trump realized he can used TT to reach Gen Z and gained massive following on the platform.
Also helps that one of TT biggest investors (Jeffrey Yass) is also one of Trump's biggest donors.
Win-Win for Trump honestly.

Varies now
80% of cell phones have some of their assembly done in China. The Chinese are spying on everyone regardless of whether you have TikTok or not.

Toxic positivity/optimism and engagement farming has been a trend for a while now. Trump is all talk and rhetoric. People need to shift their focus not on what he says but on what he actually does.

TikTok isn't going anywhere. I wouldn't be surprised if Musk buys it for cheap.

The masses flock to TikTok, YouTube, and Meta as a major source for overwhelming evidence like stating the earth is flat and Jesus wasn't actually from the Middle East, but China /s.
