I gotta stop procrastinating and put a deposit down as the wait list is just growing. I love my model 3 but its absurd resale value(way higher than I paid) and the opportunity to get another iZEV grant is too much to resist. I chatted with an i5 driver, who claimed to be a former Model 3P owner, at a parking lot a few months ago. He said there was basically no comparison where the model 3 fell short with the exception of off the line speed and the supercharger network. Just a matter of time before there’s third party charging at superchargers and I’m not that concerned about the marginal acceleration difference—still super fast. I’ll definitely get at least another ev before the cyber truck comes along and I hope this might be one of them.
I keep considering one, but without getting the chance to actually drive one myself, its hard to spend the money.
There is a Hyundai dealer just 60 kms away, but nothing in stock there for me to test.
All I know is that if I were to buy one, it would be the AWD with longer range battery.
At home it would be 110 volt charging only, because it would have lots of time to charge up, also not my only vehicle. But for snow and ice drives, plus trips, it has to have the range and AWD, or would be useless to me.
Comfort and reliability are huge considerations for me, as I tend to regularly do long drives. Just did 580 kms Monday, and again back on Wednesday this week.
Yeah they are rare. For a 580 km journey you’d definitely need to fast charge once and then again on the way back—the 110 volt takes a few days from empty to full. Even if you have a few days to charge, it’s worth It to buy a high voltage portable charger—$300 to $700. Doesn’t need special wiring just a stove, dryer, welder or RV plug. Cold does affect range but it’s mostly exaggerated.
It would definitely need charging along the way on trips, but some towns have quick chargers.
But at home I would just plug it into 110, because I frequently don't drive for 2 to 4 days, also I would be keeping my Ridgeline.
Neighbour has one and loves it.
The range is a non issue. She takes kids to school and shopping, travelling long distances doesn’t matter. Plug and go. Super quiet.
She bought it after another neighbour got a Ford hybrid pickup. He uses it in electric mode almost all the time.
Two people in my neighbourhood have Tesla S which are nice but have poor support, like NO dealers. Hyundai has a huge dealer network and getting it serviced is easy.

Battery tech is evolving fast, as in weekly if not daily.
Every auto maker is looking at EV's as a way to redo / redesign / refresh their product line ups.
Now seeing more Mavericks, Hyundai, Kia, of course Teslas, hybrids, PHEV's driving around the GVRD, adoption rate is high and getting higher.
Now if one of these makers would duplicate a 50's DeVille ... sigh ...

I am waiting for a proper truck or SUV with equivalent to 4WD with low range, ground clearance, and real towing capacity. No awd pavement princess for me. The Ford Lightning looks promising, but I want more to choose from.
My sister and her husband drove one owned by his sister and loved it. They put in an order with their local dealer. Looking at a minimum of a year wait before they get one. They can't specify the trim level. Basically when their Ioniq 5 arrives, if they don't want the trim level it happens to be, they can take a pass and wait for the next one to come in. At least they don't have to go to the back of the line if they pass on the one they are offered.

I had a Toyota and they were phoning me to trade in. Probably because of the shortage of cars worldwide, supply chain stuff.
So I go in, just to look.
Get bamboozled into letting them check my car for trade in value. They offer $5k over black book. Tried a hybrid RAV it was ok. Tried a full electric RAV and man it was great.
“I’ll take it”.
Ok, they’ll take my car as trade in. BUT you can’t have this RAV, it’s just a demo. We have to wait until another one comes in. Actually it’s six months to a year.
“So you sell my car but I don’t have anything for maybe a year?!?!”
Evasive not exactly but yeah or more we aren’t sure.
I’m staying with my klunker for now.

Pretty sure you need to have a driver's side mirror on the outside, and a rear view mirror in Canada. Camera systems will not probably be viable, because of video/camera failure/electrical failure. So laws have to be changed.
Hood, roof, trunk and sides - I would put some type of solar cells...

Thankfully I have a few good vehicles already, but wait times for many things are crazy nowadays.
I was in Hyundai dealership last week for an issue with my Elantra and was told current waiting list for Ioniq 5 is 21 months. Wow! With that kind of waiting list you have to think that they are stepping up production as fast as they can.

They told you 2024? That’s awesome! If you’re in the lower mainland, would you care to share what dealership? I saw one that only did paid test drives through the Turo peer car sharing app. If I’m not mistaken even a fully equipped i5 qualifies for the $5k federal grant.
