I've been vegetarian for about fifteen years and I'm proof that you can still be out of shape if your meatless diet is shitty enough. I tend to make decent, wholesome meals throughout the week and then undo everything with copious amounts of beer and takeout on the weekends.

Be good most of the time.
Perfection is stupid if you don’t enjoy yourself.

As I was prepping for my 2nd divorce which was slated to be butt fucking ugly, I figured I had better get healthy. Went the food sensitivity testing route and worked closely with a fantastic naturopathic doctor who specialized in men's health. Put me on a strict diet eliminating everything that was a 3 (don't ever eat) or a 2 (once a month if at all) and basically cut out meat, dairy and bread. Felt like shit for a couple weeks, then it was like a switch turned on and I felt more energized. Lost 15 lbs the first month, another 20 over the next few months and was back to my university weight. Had to buy a new wardrobe but kept some of my fat pants just because. Diet has been about 90% vegetarian ever since. As an ex Albertan steak and potatoes eater (once in a while now), and for what its worth as this is my story, yours may be different, but going vegetarian sure has worked for me. As a bonus, I am pretty sure it has helped my sexual health as well!!

There is a history of heart disease and high blood pressure in my family, so for the last few years I have drastically cut down on my consumption of fatty red meat, eating mostly fish, chicken, and turkey.

Honestly, eating healthy sucks.

For pure eating enjoyment, nothing beats a thick, juicy barbecued steak, medium rare.

I'm in the same situation. Family history of heart disease and high blood pressure. I've really tried to cut back on red meat, and lately, been eating more vegetarian or pasta dishes. However, my job requires a lot of travelling, with long hours, so I end up hitting fast food places far more than I should.

I get the chicken teriyaki dishes from the Bento counters at Superstore or Sobey’s. A helluva lot better for you than burgers and fries.
Superstore has passable chicken caesar salads too, greens are always good for you.
Pasta is shit, pure carbs.

That's awesome :) I've been vegetarian most of my life and vegan for over 15 years.. I do it for ethical reasons rather than health.. It is really easy and practical to do long term and can be less expensive as well depending on how you do it :)

Classic Durham wheat pasta very much all carbs. There is a whole new gig in lentil and quinoa pastas though. All types, whether a spaghetti and related or a macaroni style.
Not fresh alternative pasta that I have found yet, but dry. Cooks up pretty much the same as regular dry pasta. Very high protein content, taste may even be better than regular pasta.
Of course one can still pack in the carbs etc with the sauce, but whose checking on that?
