My grandfather was a victim that survived the atrocities of a boarding school in central AB in the 30's, As a teen i was pretty close with my grandparents, i could see the damage in his eyes and never understood the actual pain and suffering he endured until he passed away in the early 90s, it was then that my grandmother explained to me that the suffering he bottled up inside for years was due to the trauma that he suffered as a young child in the boarding school. When he was in his 20's i was told, he was extremely violent, had major alcohol issues and was in trouble mentally. When he met my grandmother, it was this beautiful soul turned his life around. He was a hard working man and family was first, i am grateful to be his grandson, he was a great influence for me. I was confused to why my grandmother wanted to hold the funeral in a catholic church after all he had been through, after the funeral it was then i never had stepped foot or near a church again. I started to do some light research on the subject and let me tell you, there is allot the public does not know cause allot of the survivors (even more of my family great uncles and aunts and their extended family and friends) suffered in silence and took this to their graves...
