I'm not saying that Americans are my cup of tea but if you continually insult your next door neighbour it usually doesn't morph into a pleasant situation.
If you don't get along with the neighbour who cut branches of your tree without asking you to do it first or gets a survey done to rip down the fence you built because it happens to be 2 inches on his property and not yours:
There is always the luxury to move to another neighborhood or that the nasty neighbour will move on.
Canada can't move to another neighborhood. And no matter what we say to the USA-they can't move either.

The anti-American movement extends well beyond the Canadian border; It is a global phenomenon. Before people jump on the Trump train, this has been going on long before Trump even considered office. I'm going to blame it on the conservative views and patriotic "America First" that the U.S. has embraced for far too long. At least that is my thought.

Up until WW2 the US employed a largely isolationist policy. After the war the policy changed and they started interfering in other countries affairs most notably the overthrow of prime minister Mosaddegh in Iran in 1953 and installing the Shah in power. Many other instances followed including the overthrow of Salvadore Ellende president of Chile in 1973 . Acts such as these have increased the Anti-American feelings in parts of the world.

A good book on American diplomatic failure in SE Asia is The Ugly American by Eugene Burdick.

What about the submarines the liberals bought from the UK? Saw one in dry dock in Halifax several years ago, probably still there.
A repeating pattern with the forces: buy cutting edge high level kit but spend nothing on maintenance.
That’s why everything keeps falling apart.Instead of replacing the worn out tracked APCs they tried applique armour panels and spent more fucking around with them than new LAVs would cost.
It goes for both Libs and Cons.
I remember the switch from the FN L1 to those fucking horrible Diemaco rifles...The plastic stocks would break in CQB melees. Diemaco was a startup company purely based on patronage. And the Para Ordnance pistols...I don’t think they are issued anymore. And the shyster in Arnprior selling body armour and helmets that disintegrated in sunlight.
Both parties are bad, but Cons may be slightly worse.

It’s quite common for our NATO countries to train in our winters up north which is similar to Afghanistan’s mountainous terrain. I’ve come across Royal Marines, RAF and German’s at a couple of CF bases.

I suppose this Chinese deal was set up a long time ago before they started flexing in the Pacific.

I remember reading some years ago, that British troops training at suffield were banned from bars in Medicine Hat because they were too disruptive and started too many fights.
