One thing Covid lockdown has done is make me realize there is absolutely no need for professional sports to take up much, if any of my time, ever again.
I never understood why people watched basketball. Back and forth, along the court, almost every play someone scores, mystery fouls and only the last two minutes actually meaning anything. Now add in being lectured by millionaire players, and nothing about the sport is enticing.
WNBA - Seriously? What’s next - the Women Watching Paint Dry League?
Ditto for pro football. They’re paid to play a sport, not lecture fans (and only one voice is allowed) on politics, race, finance, architecture, religion, or anything else. CFL had some appeal, but the over-hyped NFL was boring. The showboating celebrations after every play like they just won the game, the trash talk, the marketing of everything under the sun. Buh bye.
Soccer? I used to be a fan, but it really is tedious.
Hockey. I sometimes enjoy watching the Canucks lose, but between the greed, the politics and incessant rule changes, I’m done except for maybe the Stanley Cup.
Auto racing? Other than crashes, why?
Horse racing - exists just for betting, which is where the rest of pro sports is headed.
Olympics - The most corrupt group in the world, fleecing cities and states for billions every four years to sell Coca Cola, TV's and credit cardss. Oh, and some unknown athletes are put on display to justify the con.
Tennis, Skiing, Running, Cycling - All things I’d rather do, than watch.
Look at all that wasted time spent watching what amounts to nothing, really. Was I entertained? Maybe, sometimes. Other times I invested way too much energy and emotion in people that often showed utter disdain for their fans. So, now I’m done with them.
