Where to stay. Hotel, Motel, camp ground, youth hostels, Wallmart parking lot etc.
In the Lord of the Rings the fellows went camping for the most part. But I read some other books where travelling in Fiction books, trails, paths had waystations to protect travellers from cold, snow, rain etc. The rule of these shelter was to replace what you used. eg wood in the storage used for heating, Tools left for other travellers (no stealing them). Locals would stock food there for emergencies for travellers.
Are there places to hike for a few days and then take a train back to town? Seems like everything is geared up for you to pay at such and such place to sleep. Is there such a thing as a free camp site anymore.
