I’d love to hear what injustices were visited upon them by the officials. Perhaps you could expound?
Not any particular one example, but in a nutshell...
The 2010-11 team was built to destroy teams in special teams (as evident by the 1st ranked PP/PK), but as we all know officiating in the playoffs takes on a life of its own. The team was extremely skilled but the Bruins pushed the envelope so far that they knew they could get away with a ridiculous amount even if they were already getting whistled more to begin with. The visual of Marchand sandbagging Daniel tells the whole story; it should have been a penalty (and would have been in the regular season) and the Canucks should have been given the chance to take advantage of that on the PP (which also began to fizzle in the finals). Instead by not fighting back all of a sudden they're not "tough enough" - simply garbage spewed by the media and hockey purists. And yet had he fought back people simply would have said "oh Marchand is getting under his skin". The mantra of that team was to make them pay, but not only did they not get the calls, they couldn't finish with the chances that they had.
Combine Thomas putting on the greatest Stanley Cup Final goaltending performance of all time, the Canuck injuries (playing and sitting out), and the straw the broke the camel/Hamhuis' back... they stood no chance.
The officiating would have helped put the Canucks up another game or so, but I think they already outperformed expectations all things considered.
