Tunnel: Korean thriller about a family man who gets trapped under a construction tunnel when it collapses. Its like Buried mixed with Locke, it was pretty interesting and very comparable to this year's The 33 (didn't see that one though). Korean language with english subtitles

The Light Between Oceans: Strong cast, bad movie. Cloying and steeped in melodrama, the movie moves at a very slow pace and even goes into soap opera levels of incredulity. Avoid, even if a big fan of the three principle players.

A great little film with a BC location & connection is currently running on IFC, (so probably available on Netflix/Crave/shomi or whatever you're using as a streaming service) is "Wrecked". Shot entirely on location in Errington (WHERE???) BC, it tells the story of a man who awakens in a crashed car with a dead man & a bag of money...and no recollection of who he is or how he got there. Adrian Brody stars. Great film, and shot in sequence, with natural (gloomy) ambient light!

Hell or High Water: Overall I enjoyed the movie.....Sort of "Robin Hoodish"....I enjoyed the politically incorrect humor. I went away questioning our "Capitalistic system" that chews up and spits out not only people, but communities and whole towns and cities, once they've lost their usefulness.

TRAIN TO BUSAN: I usually go to Rotten Tomatoes and watch the movies that are rated high there. I had read nice reviews of this Korean zombie thriller so I watched it online. I am not into horror/zombie genre but I still enjoyed it. Pretty good fast paced action and it is what other zombie movies usually are. Recommend: yes, if you are into blood, gore, body parts, dead bodies etc.

You gotta be kidding me! It was one of the most disappointing ever. lol. I think Brad Pitt did it cuz he didnt have much going on the screen!

Anyways, each to his own, I guess. I thought WWZ was a WOT and WOM (well, it didn't cost me a dime really because I watched it online for free.).

They tried to rejig a novel that was just ok, and that had no major characters that existed through the length of the novel (similar to the old testament of the bible) into a movie that had to have a major character to justify Brad Pitt's salary. Even the zombies behaved very differently. In the novel they walked/crawled slowly, in the movie they could beat Usain Bolt in a 100 metre dash.

I saw Sully a few weeks back, decent flick. Good acting and that's standard with Clint Eastwood directed films.

ALIGARH- While browsing for movies online, I saw some good reviews of this movie. It is made in India but it has subtitles. In fact lots of dialogues are in English. It is about a professor in an Indian university (in a city called Aligarh, hence the title of the movie). He gets caught having sex with a poor man and get suspended for being gay. Brilliant work, great direction and it is very well shot. The actor playing the professor and the one playing a young reporter are both outstanding. It shows how people see homosexuality in a very conservative society. Recommend: Yes.

Nyphomaniac II I know this movie caused a big stir when it came out and I wanted to watch it. I couldn't catch it then so finally I watched it online last night. It was not what I thought it was going to be. It is not really an erotic , sexy and sensual movie. On the contrary I found it to be disturbing and disgusting. Yes, it is provocative and philosophical on many levels but sexy and erotic it is not. It is VERY bold and many scenes are graphic, or rather pornographic. I am surprised it made through all the censor certification process.

Although I was impressed by the acting of the leading cast, I found myself cringing at some of the scenes but I kept on watching it out of morbid curiosity (Well, I just fast forwarded through many scenes).

Repeat: NEVER. Recommend: If you think watching self-mutilation and sight of a woman shoving knitting needles in her vagina to abort her pregnancy are your things, sure go for it. I for one find pain and S&M disturbing. Heck, I rarely ever smack an SP's bum.

Having said that, I will look for Nymphomaniac volume one and watch it, out of morbid curiosity of course.

Coincidentally, I downloaded Nymphomaniac volume one a little while ago but have not gotten around to watching it. Now, after reading your comments above, I must admit I'm a bit apprehensive about doing so.

I saw The Magnificent Seven remake on Saturday, needless to say it was very generic and straightforward. It was high on action, but it was just a pew pew kind of affair, no twists or anything new to the classic story.

Snowden was pretty mediocre too. I recommend Citizenfour instead.

Don't Breathe Just finished watching it online. Usually I am not into horror movies so I kept on postponing it. Finally I decided to watch it and it turned out to be heck of a thriller!!! Three people break into a house occupied by a blind war vet, thinking it would be an easy loot........ but.... I will let not ruin it for you. It is not really a horror movie but it is tense, violent, relentless and very well directed. There are no easy,
false thrills and scares. Great from start to finish.

Recommend: Strongly, esp to those who love home invasion genre thrillers.

The Age of Shadows: Another korean film, but a good one. Its about rebels during the Japan/Korean war, they are trying to smuggle in explosives. They are chased by a Korean turned Japanese lackey, and attempt to turn him while he tries to infiltrate them. Its high on good acting, direction, and suspense, in the vein of Inglourious Basterds. Highly recommend if you are alright with english subtitles

The Accountant: Affleck is back! Strong characters and script, good action, and even hints of comedy are all present in this well acted thriller/drama. Definitely recommend also
