My time as a Christmas elf. I suppose this could be a post unto itself, but it won't be. To set the stage, there comes talk of a Christmas bakeoff....then talk about a crumb boy or girl....to which I pay little attention. Then comes a planned visit to Vangroovie and a subsequent firming of the date for the bakoff. I happen to be in Vangroovie at this time, and I happen to be invited to partake as crumb boy. I whine a bit about how it "will all be nothing but work" to which I am greeted with...."pfffft, you should be honoured"....and, of course I am. But, in my mind, I know it will be work and I will need to be attentive, alert, and sort of sober. Then comes the brilliant idea about costuming the crumb boy with a certain someone who shall remain nameless suggesting to Miss Freyja that I would look good in a pair of elvin tights. I have enough sense and humility to know that I don't look good in tights and so attempt to intercede by participating in the purchase of said elvin costume. Fortunately, it arrives by express post in time for the event....along with the imported chinese pearl necklaces.
Comes the day of the event. I am assisting in the prep, moving things, fetching things, assisting as best I can. The first arrival is the d.j. chick. I'm thinking she's going to have some sort of computer and little sound hook up.....she starts moving in these massive speakers, stands, and a Denon rig that I've not seen the likes of before. I assist her in setting it up, fuck it's some heavy stuff and a lot of it. Freyja consents to the positioning, and we get that puppy up and loaded....cables running here, there, and everywhere. First thought on this d.j. chick....she's uber competent, calm, and genuinely interesting. That thought doesn't change one iota throughout the course of the evening. She's a pro.
I won't list the arrivals by name nor number, I simply don't recall the order. What I can say, is that the party was, in fact, a party. It was a working party with Miss Jasmine's photographer playing a central and incredibly competent role. I recall asking him "can you make me look good??"....he replied without so much as a smile...."of course". You gotta like that kind of confidence.
Then there are the ladies. VV was there, c/w her premade cookies. Two memories of VV....one is how she simply leaped into Santa's lap for the photo shoot....the other was a quiet chat when she inquired as to how I was making out with my Greek diet....which I had picked up from a post of hers way back when in the lounge. I had to admit my failure but I liked that she asked. VV exudes a quiet confidence and sexuality.
Then comes Vanessa Kelly who I had met the night prior at the Post Perl/Werl meeting. My best memory of VK was while she was making the icing for the cookies. I think I was trying to help, and she just pfffft'd and whipped it up with some water and icing sugar. Then comes someone remarking about how GOOD it is and how it must have been so DIFFICULT to make. Both Vanessa and I kind of start laughing at this comment at the same time....leading the commenter wondering and issuing followup questions like...."o.k., so what's in it????". You likely had to be there, it was just a silly little moment. Vanessa is a fun chick, she reminds me of that hot blonde next door who was always friendly but you just never felt like you had a chance with. Well....maybe YOU did....but.....
There is, of course, Miss Jasmine. I cannot help but be in awe of Miss Jasmine, she is so very good at what she does. My memory of Miss Jasmine, beyond trying to get that cookie that she made for me....consists of two events. The first is as I am putting a new arrival's coat into Miss Freyja's bedroom for safety sake....and I stumble in as Miss Jasmine is getting changed into her Christmas outfit. Oh shit! "Sorry Miss J"...as I avert my eyes and try to ease back out. She replies "relax eddie, put the coat away. It's not like you haven't seen me naked before". The other memory was whilst I was doing a round of dishes....it's a constant job keeping the dishes clean, the ashtrays empty, the wine glasses refilled...etc etc etc...and the moment I recall, was with both my hands engaged in soaping and rinsing dishware in the sink. Miss Jasmine wanders by and simply pops a piece of cookie into my mouth. A minor event in the greater scheme of things but it struck me as a kind and gentle gesture. She's a class act every step of the way.
What can I say about Miss Freyja's friend Harmony? Well, when she first arrived I could tell she was just "taking it all in". She wasn't there to be involved in the pictures and she looked at me when I answered the door to let her in and take her coat like I was from the moon. But, c'est ca la vie. She warmed up a bit to me as the evening went on and I have two memories here also. The first is her....omg...I don't know if I should repeat this but it was funny as all fuck. Somehow the conversation shifts around to nose picking. I mean really, who hasn't picked their nose? Then she sticks her finger into Miss Freyja's nose and holds it there. As if that's not funny enough, amidst all the comments from the gathered, she pulls it out after a while and sucks it clean. Well holy fuck....was THAT ever funny. Harmony rose up 20 points in my estimation with that simple act. She is a delightful human. Next memory was of her commenting to Miss Freyja that "everybody needs an eddie"....whilst I was finishing washing some dishes. How can you not like someone as perceptive as THAT?
I also had the chance to meet and visit with some fellow perbites who accompanied the ladies to the party. Without fail, interesting fellows. It's always fun to chat at a party with quiet confidence and they were all of that. It struck me, as it has struck me at Merl meetings, and the one Perl/Werl meeting.....that my fellow perbites are generally intelligent and likely at the top of their respective games. Whatever their games might be.....it simply isn't my business. It's just an observation of fact.
To conclude, a tip of my hat to the delightful Miss Freyja for hosting such a party as the one she did. She put a lot of thought, effort, and time into it and....throughout it all....never failed to be anything but a most competent and accomplished hostess for all concerned. Thank you for allowing me to assist Miss Freyja. It was truly my honour and a memory that permits a smile to flash over my face when I think of it. And, those are memories worth having.
most respectfully,
eddie
