Not exactly "synthetic" . They are made from stem cells. The whole article is . They look like donuts in hot oil

Reminds me of those robotic arms they had that could locate slugs in your garden with a laser, pick them up, and drop them into vat that turned them into a power source for the robotic arm.

Nothing ever came of them though, disappointing.

According to this article, it will be 3 or 4 years before the “SlugBot” is ready for production.
