Would have been so funny if Chris Rock apologized then made another joke about her
...like a joke about their marital status, lol....

Crass joke considering her alopecia, but this fits the current state of affairs; if you don't like what someone says, go smack 'em.
Considering most of his jokes were filtered through by the producers of the Oscars (thanks to Gervais setting the standard), I'm sure someone thought it was okay to let a few 'roastings' through.... Will Smith seemed to overreact here, imo.

Making a crack about Will Smith’s wife’s autoimmune medical condition is really low class and offside.
Sure, make jokes at Will Smith’s expense….that’s kind of part of the whole package as big celebrity. Even some jokes about family members making fools of themselves in public, but picking on a medical condition that she has no control over, that’s not comedy at all.

A joke is a joke is a joke.
Will Smith is and always has been a flake.
There is never any excuse for assaulting some one. Period.

Nah, some jokes cross the line. If Someone made a joke about your family members illness, that’d be ok? Not sure how I’d react myself, but definitely not ok to me.

Not condoning violence here and maybe not in this situation (and Will’s probsbly not setting the best example? Debatable) but it does set anexample for STICKING UP for someone you love/care for!

Will was laughing along with the joke, until the camera cut away and Jada cucked him.

Secondly, sources online say ( I don’t have a link per source) that Will and other nominees were at the rehearsal the day before; so Will mostly likely heard the joke.

My observation; that slap looked mighty Hollywood, dramatic, with nothing behind it. Rock didn’t even flinch. Literally couldn’t even smack the smile off his face. I’m not saying it was staged. I’m saying Will went up to appease Jada after seeing her reaction, and saved face after laughing at the joke himself.

Reminds me of when John Wayne had to be held back by security when Sacheen Littlefeather was onstage decrying the treatment of Native Americans in film.

Making a joke, staged or otherwise about someone's illness is fucking disgusting. Not condoning any of this and it just goes to show that the Oscars and all the other bullshit awards shows are so past their due date, they should be dropped alltogether.

No it's a joke. If some people don't find it funny then it's their problem. Can't please everyone
Have you thought about anyone else’s feelings besides yours?
Ever?
Jokes like this can drive people to suicide…not that it would bother you.

Of course. If I like them I will. If some people kill themselves because of a joke then they can either stay at home all their lives or learn to deal with it.

I'm just surprised having someone banged his wife didn't drive Will crazy but a joke did.

To all the "no condoning violence BUT... " folks. You ARE condoning violence.

Hey, I'm a big MMA fan, but men in suits should not be hitting each other in front of millions of viewers. This brings up a lot of stuff:

1) how do women who otherwise define themselves as feminists - who look for micro aggressions behind awkward jokes, who are touchy about mansplaining, etc. - suddenly have nothing to say about this?
2) how is this not toxic masculinity? How are people OK with Will Smith's behaviour not then complicit enablers?
3) a professional comedian made a joke about an outspoken & very public woman... yet somehow he was "asking for it", he "deserved what he got"?
4) Chris Rock is apparently not pressing charges, I think he should but I understand that he's between a rock (no pun intended) and a hard place, if he does then the narrative becomes about how "he can dish it out but he can't take it", etc.. His reaction right after was classy, he tried to make it into a joke while Will Smith continued to act like a caveman ("MY wife!").

Either way it's going to give the ratings a huge kick next season.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually staged just for that reason. It's money after all.

Won't hurt sales of his book Will, it came out in Nov 2021.

Short of being escorted out of the building still received the award but denied an acceptance speech. Would have appropriate to me.
