For me there's:

Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL playing at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Arena

Greenville Grrrowl and Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL

Odessa Jackalopes, Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees and Memphis Riverkings (Turtle) of the Central Hockey League

Adirondack Frostbite and Port Huron Flags of the United Hockey League

Wasilla Spirit of the North American Hockey League

IMHO, the worst name by far is the "Kentucky Thoroughblades", of the AHL.

The Kentucky Thoroughblades played in the American Hockey League for five seasons in Lexington, Kentucky from 1996 to 2001. They played in Rupp Arena. They were a farm team for the San Jose Sharks and were moved to Cleveland (and possibly again since then? Can somebody fill me in on that. Who is San Jose's farm team now?).

Then you've got the Canucks old farm team: the "Syracuse Crunch", absolutely fucking horrible name for a hockey club. Why they have stuck with that all these years I'll never understand. The team is now the affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

As for the Gamecocks... I think that name could be placed in either catergory. Certainly the alumni of that school (and I've knew a few in my time), are all hardcore devotees of the team and the name.... but to people who aren't from that area, I think it's fair to say that the name sounds pretty funny. "I hear they're game for a little...." (well, I'll let you finsh that one :p )

The Alabama Crimson Tide

Sounds like a fuckin' redneck period.

I'm assuming this isn't specifically relating to hockey? You never stated...

The San Jose AHL farm team is still the Cleveland Barons. They also send players to two teams in the ECHL, the Toledo Storm and the Fresno Falcons.

i fucking hate em !!!!! and all the refugee's from toronto!!!
kind of funny that if they are the most hated that they have a large fallowing of fans in every away game in every stadium they play in with exception of maybe montreal.

also the away cities they play in usually sell out the areana. this is not a big deal in canada cause most games in canada sellout but they tend to sellout areana's in the states where hockey is less popular cause everyone wants to see them. therefore i don't think your statement of most hated team stands true.

if i had to pick a most hated team, i'd say its the detriot pistons of the 80's and early 90's and maybe the new jersey devils.

Speaking of fightin' hens... can't forget the "Atlanta Thrashers" of the NHL, and their chicken logo. Brutal name. That's what you get when the ownership (Ted Turner in those days) insists on a particular name without listening to the marketing people or the fans (see also Disney Corp. and the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, another executive decision which the fans definitely did not call for).

Of all the new NHL names since 1990, the only ones that are any good are the Florida Panthers, San Jose Sharks, Tampa Bay Lightning and Ottawa Senators. Keep it simple... pick an ANIMAL!! (or at least something basic that is only one word)

Names that blow: Minnesota Wild, Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Nasville Predators, Carolina Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche, and Phoenix Coyotes.

Same thing in basketball. Good name: Vancouver Grizzlies (despite being the worst team ever). Dumb "Jurassic Park"-era name: Toronto Raptors (the second worst team of all time, and possibly about to take the #1 spot if they keep going the way they have been).

In general the NBA has done a lot better job with their names than the NHL. Even names like the Bobcats, Hornets, Heat, Magic, Wizards, Raptors, etc. are no where near as brutal as the worst the NHL has to offer.

On top of the Green Monster
Minor league baseball team from a few years ago - the Macon Whoopie.

I always thought the Trail Smoke Eaters was a pretty cool name.
