What other team sport has a stupid shootout to decide a game in the playoffs. They should play till someone scores. Shootout is just the goalie picking a lucky side. Let the team decide the outcome. Just my view.

I would suggest that that ref in the France/England game is on the hit list of a lot of British fans. Thankfully, FIFA overruled this blind mofo.

Ya it is a bit of a ridiculous way to decide a game. I heard some analyst mention an idea where in overtime, the teams would remove two players from the field on each side and play the game that way. It might not generate a goal in the required time, but it does require more strategy by the coach. I'd prefer the outcome to be decided by something like that, rather than penalty kicks.

I agree, now it's proven that this was the group of death but I still think that Canada should have beaten Belgium.
Canada have some good players but coaching is not where it should be at this level but he did good job qualifying for WC but that's it
The Morocco/Spain game was a good one. Morocco were indeed the plucky underdog, but it's not like they were hanging on by the fingernails the whole time. They had multiple opportunities to get a game winning goal as well. I hope they defeat Portugal next (mainly because: fuck Ronaldo).

Brazil and Argentina will not have an easy time in their next games; no time to look ahead to each other yet. Complacency kills.

England/France is gonna be the battle of hype & cliches. Brexit issues? LOL, fuck that - I want to see some call-backs to the 100 Years War. :geek:

Morocco proved to be the most dangerous African team. They have a very energetic style, but they're not all run-and-gun. They defend well, as they had to prove holding off Spain's very organized attacking.

Look at it this way:

The two "least ranked" teams Canada lost their group matches to (Croatia and Morocco) have both made it to the final 8. Just shows the kind of quality seen in that group, which our team had to contend against.
They took a step up to being in contention for the top of CONCACAF, but as some of the player/analysts on TSN said, now they need to develop even more until they can compete against the dangerous teams from other continents.

Yeah, that's what they're saying: "the quiet group of death". They're both in the final 4, and by the end of this week, who knows?
(I'm rooting for the two others though, for other reasons.)

Looks like he cinderellas are done, France vs Agentina in the finale, should be excellent.
Croatia looked a bit overwhelmed against Messi & co, the French simply too good for the Moroccans.

I have to go for Croatia. They have the smarts to live with the Argentinian pressure and then sting them on the breakaway.
Well that was a kiss of death and I've gone down a few places in my pool.

Oh, what an insane game ! Just the result I was hoping for, but it had to go through pure chaos to get there. 🤪

Messi got his cup, but the torch has been passed from the greatest player to the next greatest, Mbappe. 👍

I clicked in at the 65th minute, got woken up by the thunderstorm this morning! Stats at that point were 2-0 for Argentina, 10 shots to zip Argentina, pretty much total domination. Then, it all changed and oh my ... what a game. May have been the most exciting football game I have seen. Very happy that Messi got his cup!

I'm happy for Messi, not happy for loosing my bet but you winn some and loose some.
I would hate to think that game was fixed because of him and his need for his trophy,
But we did see lots of penalties for him and some of them were questionable.

Soccer can be fixed, but FIFA is too unimaginative compared to other sports bodies.

Gotta get rid of that goal-sucking offside rule in OT. Reduce players, encourage attacks, and bring back the golden goal. Open play and first team to knock the ball in wins.

Too many games decided by an awarded penalty kick too. Inadvertent elbow or upper arm balls shouldn’t result penalty kicks imho. Contact tackles not in position to score as well. Maybe indirect or possession awarded. It’s called “Hand Ball” for a reason. Make only run-of-play goals count toward the golden boot.

There, fixed it for you FIFA. Lol.
