Well that sound you all heard was me exhaling after holding my breath for 30 minutes or so. There is nothing worse than waiting for the dreaded blue screen of death that a installation has failed and if you weren't smart enough to back up you have lost your entire life collection of digital documents. If my computer was operating at 100% I probably would have put it off for awhile but my surface pro 3 was showing some signs of faltering so there was no time like the present.

Well they say the upgrade is painless and they were correct. Couple clicks and sit back, watch and hope. About 40 minutes and I am typing this review. Its a little different than the last review but almost as important lol. I know I have now locked myself into MS's little scheme to make me buy their subscription to windows that I know will come out in a year or so but that seems to be the way things are going these days. It will just be added to my office 365 subscription.

Anyways just wanted to put out there that my computing world did not come to a end, I am still a digital entity. So far I am liking it, thank god the start menu as we know it is back and I think the more straight forward control panel is back. Just changing a printer was painful in windows 8. Actually changing properties of any piece of hardware I found a pain in my ass.

Has anyone else taking the plunge?

Thoughts?

I find software boring.

I'm more of a hardware guy, and the Broadwell microarchitecture, currently has my interest.

I won't be upgrading any time soon because of this clause:

""We will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to protect our customers or enforce the terms governing the use of the services."'

We are not talking about FaceBook or Twitter saying this, but your operating system.

They have even introduced a feature that will share your Wifi credentials with your contacts.

I won't give up so much privacy just so that I can say I'm running the latest version of Windows. What exactly have you gained with the "upgrade"?

ISO is a disc burning image file for you to burn on a blank disc. this way you can clean install windows 10 or do another upgrade on another pc.

hardware guy, i upgraded my game pc to Devils Canyon last December. I considered Haswell-E but decided the 4790K was best bang for buck.

As for Windows 10. I at first said yes to the upgrade. Still hasnt upgraded me yet nor has it downloaded anything. Could be because i control the upgrade and recovery
by not letting it automatically download and install but to download and let me choose. Due to the privacy concerns popping up around the net i am thinking to just say
no and cancel the upgrade.

In Windows 10 you surrender this control. In the Professional version (corporate) updates can be turned off. In home versions, you simply cannot turn off updates (I'm sure some smart geeks will figure out how to do this though). Just another reason to wait until Microsoft addresses such issues before committing to an upgrade.

It's too bad that Microsoft has to resort to vacuuming up people's personal info from their PCs to sell to advertisers or to donate to the NSA. And here I thought the P in PC stood for 'personal'. Unlike Google and Facebook, Microsoft has many other revenue streams and does not need to do this. I'll stick with Win 7 for now, and upgrade to Linux if need be. My laptop is a Macbook so I am not worried about it, yet.

No way am I upgrading until all of my favourite geeks (you know who you are) tell me it's safe to do so. I suffered through more BSofD during the whole Windows ME disaster than I ever want to go through again! I'm going to stick with Windows 8 for now. If the person I trust most in the world tells me to go ahead and update, I'll do it right after he does his laptop.

to get rid of bsod's, you need to maintain computer regularly by do all of the followings:
-update hardware devices drivers every two months
-update all of your softwares/apps/programs (those that you use most) every two months
-update windows (both critical and optional, especially windows and ms products related) every month
-delete temp files, log files, bak files regularly
-run the disk cleanup program once a month
-run thorough error check program every four months

now bsod's should be gone unless your hardwares are starting to show faulty signs!

Check your closet..:)
I upgraded to win10 last nite. Wished I didn't.
Some of my programs didn't open at all.
Make sure you upgrade you graphic card software and even then I had to uninstall the games and go with the 32bit version VS the 64bit. God knows why.
The also have the xbox game system support which every time I wanted to load my game it made me go trough xbox....WTF
I will NOT be installing it on any of my other sys until bugs are worked out.
To it looks like spruced up version of XP as far as the left side task bar when you click on the bottom left side windows icon.

One error I kept getting was {msvcr100.dll is missing from your computer.**

I install this. It is the C++ Redistributable Package 2010.
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en....aspx?id=26999
Pick the file named vcredist_x64.exe

Use Repair option

I guess the file gets corrupted when upgrading to Win10

I turned "Live title OFF" on the x-box and it stopped asking.

Also in Win10, the right side bar ithat came up when you moused top left is now removed

I'll let you know more as I fiddle around it more.

Cheers

then 3) looked up how to remove that windows 10 thingy and removed from my computers. Guess i am sticking with Win8.1 for now.

I'm running 7 and it will be the last of MS for me. Looking at a Mac or another O/S. When you have a company that you give your money to, tell you what they are going to do with your personal info it's time to stop supporting them. I'm self-employed, if I told my customers that I'd be doing that; I'd be out of business asap.

That works? Because for the first time ever, less than 24 hours after my laptop "upgraded" without warning,I seem to have caught a nasty bug.
It doesn't use pop-ups,but rather opens a new window every time you confirm you want to leave the page ! I had to force shutdown as Icould not even close the browser. Nothing shows on a virus scan.

Download and run this Malwarebytes . If there is something there, good chance this program will find it.
