I am thinking about making the switch over to wind mobile from fido but wanted to know if anyone uses the service and what is the reception like. Ive heard horror stories about moblicity and their reception. It also looks like they offer some decent new phones like the Samsung galaxy nexus for $199.

Hey Silicone.... It might look appealing because of low rates, but I would avoid if you travel at all. They only operate in major canadian cities so if you are outside service area you can expect extra roaming charges as you travel between networks. As far as reception you can probably google some reviews of current customers.

Peace out bro...

I have switched about 7 months ago and probably saved $3-4k. I agree with Johnnie about roaming if you travel, but I have a second phone with Chatr which is rogers that I recharge when I travel within Canada or use a local SIM when abroad.

Over all a very positive experience for $40/mo everything included including US calls.

...I have an iPhone 4s with Rogers and I only pay about 90 a month for it.
Same here, and it is SO worth it...I'm blown away by the convenience of my phone (and my mini computer is with me at all times)! Plus 3500 minutes/mo., which I couldn't possibly use, unlimited Cdn long distance, text, and tons of data...no better deal out there for me. And if I'm going to be roaming on vacation, I just buy a long-distance package. But for simple phone usage, I'd agree, Wind is the way to go!

I've been with Wind for about a year and a half now. Recently moved and the reception in my new location blows. Considering I'm smack dab in the centre of Vancouver it's a little disappointing. Overall I've been happy with their service up until now, but every time I travel it's hit or miss whether the phone will get ANY coverage at all. Fortunately I've just been able to use the phone of whoever I've been traveling with. If coverage is an issue for you, I'd steer clear. I have an office phone that I can plug into the internet anywhere in the world and use my office phone, so I don't use my cell phone for business when I travel.

Recently I decided to switch over to Fido, and Wind has been stalling big time providing me with the unlock code for my Blackberry. I'm really disappointed, as I've had to pay for another month to ensure I don't go without a cell phone for a week and get my unlock code whenever they are able to get in to me. They claimed it was something to do with the Blackberry, but I think they are trying to squeeze another month out of me. It's only $40 so I don't really care about the money, it's more the lack of service that bothers me. Every time I call they keep asking "is your reception better now" expecting it to magically get better I'm guessing. Nothing has been improved in that regard, so until they build another tower in Vancouver I think I'm screwed. I'm around Main and 11th and my suite faces north looking directly at a taller concrete building. I'm guessing it's the concrete building causing the problem, but it's pretty pathetic that they can't offer basic reception in the middle of the city.

I switched to Wind a little over 2 years ago and I have been happy ever since.I do get a few problems with service connections but as this is with work it is no big deal. The only time I am out of the service coverage for any extended time I am either playing golf on an out of town course or I am working and in either case I dont care as I turn off my cell on the golf course and with regards to work it is not needed as I am on a long haul trip.

Cutting my cell phone bill from $160+ a month with Rogers with only My5 and 350 minutes a month of talktime and being disgustingly overbilled for data was a no brainer to Wind's charge of $40 per month that includes voicemail/caller ID/unlimited local and long distance and unlimited data.

Wind Mobile is the = to the small startup cell provider 14 years ago by the name of Clearnet(I think)Wind did the same thing but they are not backing down nor will thay allow the company to be bought out by Telus/Rogers.....go with Wind and speak with your wallet...yeah the service coverage is not fantastic but it will get better over time....and the feeling of not being fucked in the ass everytime you pay your cell phone bill is good.

I agree, if you are looking for dirt cheap Wind isn't a bad option. But right now Fido is kind of replicating Wind with their city zone option. $35/month for unlimited calling and texting, plus $10/month for unlimited Canada wide long distance (within a city zone), plus another $10 - $15 (can't remember) for 100 megabites of online browsing. I don't use my phone much for online browsing (I work at a computer 40 hours a week), so for me it's a good option. 100 megabites per month will allow me to check my e-mails every now and again, use Google maps, and find business phone numbers online. This is essentially all I need, which might not work for others.

been with wind since late 2010 and have been a happy camper ever since. sure some reception issues here and there, but that'll happen with any small new company trying to take on the big boys. and the pros completely out way the cons imo. i signed up for the $40 holiday miracle plan (unlimited everything) and love it. i'm constantly texting around the world, calling the states, and using data (avg 4gb/month). my bill is still just $45/month.

I do have my 'ho-phone' with Chatr
I always figured that SPs had two or more phones but I was never aware of the technical term for it. Thanks! :D

I currently have two phones (non-ho) with Koodo (Telus) and am generally hppy with them. Almost no probs with reception. I am was thinking about Wind but since I'm on the island I worry about the reception here. Checked out their coverage map and it looks okay here, but not willing to take the chance until they get a bit bigger.

The only thing I worry about with cel companies is, they start out with all of these great deals but as they get more popular it all changes. Koodo has cut out some of their earlier plans, as long as I don't change I'm good but if I want to upgrade my phone I lose my current one.

But, no I'm not with Wind (just thought I'd end this post by being back on topic).

Made the switch last year, My plan was $29 for unlimited everything (some special forgot which) which would usually go for 40, The reception is ok where i am (tricities) but some areas are not too good, just make sure you look at their map before you switch. If your in van all day then its okay. Basically my SP phone, got another reg phone with fido iphone

I switched from Rogers and got my Wind phone last December. I was trying to work up a deal with Rogers but these were their exact words: "If you don't like what we are offering you, then you should shop somewhere else". I told the rep that I had already done that and that's why I'm talking to Rogers to match the $40 unlimited plan. They wouldn't budge. So, I said 'Goodbye' and never looked back, plus I the HTC AMAZE, great phone btw!! Reception has improved over the last two mos, but sometimes in certain restaurants, buildings, and even the hospitals I will lose signal. But, I don't care, it's not for work and I'm happy because I know exactly what I'm paying per month!!

If you go to howards forum often there are specials occassionally for people signing up for wind mobile. It's even better than the 40.00 holiday miracle deal. I have a 20.00 infinite laptop deal (unlimited data) which you can put the sim card into a phone. Also they had a 35.00 deal which was the same as the 40.00 HMP. When i use the 20.00 deal i plug it into a smartphone the sim card.
