Will the risk of HPV-related cancers stop you from doing DATY?

Up, Up, and Away
There was an article this morning in the Vancouver Sun entitled "Increase in HPV-tied cancers 'disturbing': researchers."

http://www.vancouversun.com/health/...ign=Feed:+canwest/F229+(Vancouver+Sun+-+News)

The author quotes the team of researchers as saying "the increasing incidence of these HPV-related cancers has been attributed to changes in lifestyle-related risk factors, most notably sexual behaviour."

Michael Douglas famously suggested he developed throat cancer from the HPV virus by performing oral sex on women. Douglas later admitted that he in fact had tongue cancer but lied about it in order to protect his career. (Treatment for tongue cancer may require disfiguring surgery which he apparently did not need.) Douglas also admitted that the cause of his cancer could also have been his heavy drinking and smoking. (He is now clear of the cancer.)

I enjoy DATY but this article has given me second thoughts about going down on a woman. The CDC website notes that cancer often takes years, even decades, to develop after a person gets HPV, and there is no way to know which people who have HPV will develop cancer or other health problems. Most people's immune systems, however, can fight off HPV.

While there is always some sort of risk associated with any sexual activity, would it be an overreaction to curtail may love of DATY altogether? (Or maybe I should use a dental dam.)

Will the risk of HPV-related cancers stop you from doing DATY?

I hope girls are getting HPV vaccination, which is free in BC for 26 year olds and younger. Even for SPs who are not covered by insurance, it should make sense to pay for the vaccine.

You might consider getting vaccinated yourself S, which probably not bad for younger guys. The theory is it's not as crucial, and in long-term HPV will be eliminated by girls being vaccinated.

If you want to quit unsafe DATY, could as well avoid BBBJ. HPV causes even bigger portion of penis cancers than that of throat cancers.

Or accept the risk, the numbers are not really huge and probably in large portion caused by BBFS / BB greek. Up to you, does a Superman need a seat bealt ?

The numbers increased from 1.2 per 100,000 to 3,7 per 100,000 since 1975 I don't know if I'd call that disturbing it is an increase

I don't think there's really any chance of getting HPV from DATY. I think the big risk for oral is girls doing blowjobs, even CBJ - especially if they deep throat. All the oral HPV that is going around is in the tonsils and lots of different bacteria from many partners plus the impact of deep throat on the tender flesh deep in the mouth is challenging for the immune system to fight off.

You get HPV the same way as genital herpes (skin to skin contact).
By wearing a condom both partners are protected when getting a cbj, Evangeline Grace is correct.
Having sex you aren't protected from thighs/groin making contact with her.
It's pretty scary and SP's and pooners are at much higher risk because more sexual partners=higher risk.

Not true. You get HPV from bacteria, whether it is on skin or on the condom or anything else.

Not true. HPV is a virus and this particular virus is hardy enough to remain dormant on a condom, especially if it is in a bodily fluid on a condom or even minute amounts of bacteria from skin left over on the condom.

I think most of us have been exposed to it. What happens i believe is that your body needs to go through some damage. And this is when the virus takes hold example being a heavy smoker and quitting the virus now has an easy path into the damaged tissue.

I think all preteens should be vaccinated as that would almost eliminate 1 form of cancer

HPV only requires skinn to skin contact to contract, so even if you are wearing a condom, your testicles touching her genitals can contract the virus, and vice versa.

As for the vaccination, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. I have read several reports that state that the risk of death from the vaccination is far greater than the risk of developing cervical cancer. Pharmaceutical companies want to make money and it has been exposed that this vaccination has little help against preventing cervical cancer, yet there is a risk of death from the vaccination.

Well, of course, if you insist on getting your medical research and information fed to you by fringe, crank websites, you get ridiculous claims like this. You might want to look at this guy's analysis of the data. On the trueactivist site, BTW, he was promptly called a "shill". In response, he said he is a software engineer with a degree in biology who works for a company producing videoconferencing software, has no connection whatsoever with anyone producing or selling vaccines. And, although he didn't say it, he obviously posted what he did on his own website because he went and did his own independent research from the official government sources ... and was absolutely disgusted at what it told him about the way the "trueactivist" website and its ilk post blatantly false information to frighten people needlessly: http://hpv.kegel.com/safety/vaers.html

He starts off by telling you how to get the actual raw government statistics for yourself - something you will notice your 'trueactivist' doesn't do. (In fact, it never cites a single verifiable reputable source for any of its claims. And BTW it even misquotes what Dr. Harper actually said about the vaccine she helped to develop and about its risks. But I digress...) After first telling you how to find the raw data for yourself so you can double-check his statistics, he then breaks them down and analyzes them in detail - again while explaining every step of his process so that you can verify and double-check his conclusions for yourself.

The results: there were not 139 deaths in the US from the Gardasil HPV vaccine as 'trueactivist' claimed. Instead, there were 22 verified deaths in the US, where the possibility that complications from the Gardasil vaccine may have played a role could not be ruled out.

Now please note: That DOESN'T say that the Gardasil vaccine DID cause those 22 deaths; it merely says that the POSSIBILITY that the Gardasil vaccine contributed somehow to the deaths cannot be absolutely positively 100% RULED OUT. So they are included in the figures. It is, in fact, perfectly possible based on the evidence that NOBODY has died because they received this vaccine.

So Yes, Anti-Vaxxers ARE everywhere...
