I think the Canucks will be much better this year. In fact, I think they will win the Northwest Division. With solid goaltending, and the more balanced lineup, I look to see them win a very tough division. I think the only other team to really improve in the division is Minnesota. Of course, I could be wrong and end up watching the playoffs on TV again this year!

since i get bitch-smacked for evening considering responding to hocky posts,
let me say that on BCTV they posted Luongo's save stats and Florida's scoring stats and they were scoring fewer goals than he was saving.

however, with Vancouver's scoring stats (something like .310 per game over the season) and Luongo's goals against per game (.260) they SHOULD have a winning season.

But, with personnel changes, if the nucks can't score as many goals, Luongo is going to feel like he is right back in Florida again.

And I honestly don't know if Luongo can stand on his head like Kippie in Calgary and let the team get away with winning on a lousy two goals total per game!

Let the bitch-slapping begin!

The new canucks are going to feature the new NHL's version of the TRAP!! The fans will go nuts, $6M Markus Naslund will take heat like he has never had before....and they will miss the playoffs by a large margin...as for Luongo, the more thing change, the......

In the fantasy world I say trade Naslund and the Twins for Ovechkin. At least that way we could for sure see at least one player on the Canucks consistently put the puck in the opponents net, and when he would be off the ice we could marvel at Luongo's skills at the other end.

The way it's panning out under Nonis we'll be seeing lots of puck movement in the corners and the neutral zone.

if the canucks do well and i think they will, then alot of the people who doubted them will jump on the bandwagon and call themselves a die hard canucks fan all over again. yah they have lost some players but they pretty much have there top two lines set, which if healthy they can be two dominate lines and the fact they don't have a lot of depth on there 3 and 4 lines but how much offense do those lines really provide for any team. and with a huge upgrade in goal our defense should be better then it was last year.

Let's be serious...the Canucks have no chemistry what so ever,
New coach, new #1 goalie, no Bert………exactly what are we being serious about. How could you know? The fact is nobody knows.

Canucks are definitely worse than:
Detroit, Dallas, Anahiem, San Jose, Calgary, Nashville. That leaves them fighting for 2 playoff spots with: Edmonton, Minnesota, LA Kings, Phoenix, Colorado....I voted they will miss again...likely 9th or 10th.
Sounds like last year!

Sounds like every year! Canuck fans have gotten be the most sickening, front running, disloyal fans in the NHL. 2 months before the season even starts and 50% of you are already calling them bums.

Yes, we'll make the playoffs.
The defence is not quite as good as last yr, but consider Jovo and Salo were hurt for lengthy stretches.
The forwards are better with a healthy Naz and Mo. Bert was a mental anchor for the team due to the 'incident' and was a defensive liability. Our grinders are better this yr with Pyatt, Chouinard.
We will not score as much, but we don't have to...
We now have a top-notch goalie who'll make the big save and more. This guy is a difference maker.
The new coach will have the team playing better defensively - guaranteed. I've always cringed at our sloppy coverage and breakouts. The new coach will bring more accountability in this regard.
We missed the playoffs by only 3 pts. Luongo may win us 3 shootout games all by himself.
We scored 256 goals and allowed 255 last yr. I'll guess that we'll score 230ish goals and allow 210ish next yr. Believe it or not, that's playoff material.

Probably posting pics of Luongo with a beach ball behind him,
posting quotes of Nonis offering guys a ride to the airport,
and lamenting the loss of Bert.

I thought you didnt' think much of "Buttoozi" as you like to call him?

Btw, the Panthers signed Belfour to a 1 yr deal today. Hmm..signing a 40+ year old, washed up, injury prone geezer..nice vote of confidence for Auld dontcha think?

If the Canucks do make the playoffs next season, they we probably only get as far as the first round;) . I just do not think have enough depth to take them all the way to Stanley Cup Finals:confused: . However, Canucks could make a few adjustments/additions before the trade dead line next season and with a miracle win the cup:) :D .

long-suffering fans often wear the 'jersey' of their fave players ...

therefore, when the Canucks are back in the basement,
we can break out the 'hair-jerseys' and hope to God they
come close to making the playoffs (I say they won't) ...

No they're not! He's promoting that we all just sit and do nothing while long suffering Canucks fans (men, women, & children) literally die in anticipation of the Canucks missing the playoffs. It's all just so wrong! Oh, the humanity!!!!

i vote yes but admit it's a crapshoot.
they almost made it last year with a lot of injuries and i like the changes they've made and the direction they're going.
doing anything in the playoffs is another story.
but then the oilers squeaked in and look where they ended up.
in fact the top 4 playoff seeds in our division or conference or whatever it is got knocked out first round
...g
You are right greggy.;) All Canucks have to do is make it to playoffs and it is a different season when you reach the playoffs. You see so many upsets, especially last season. I think it is better to be the underdog going into the playoffs then the favourite to win. Look at the NHL last season and the world cup soccer:) .

Excuse me, but I'd like to take my post and frame it.
I hit bullseyes all over the fucking place.
We're on pace to score 217 goals (we'll probably hit 225) and allow 203.
My only error was that Chouinard would help us.

Thanks for bringing up this old post from the summer BEFORE the season started. I'm a loyal Canucks fan (and sometimes thats very very challenging) and i've always been optimistic that whatever team i cheer for will win the game i'm watching. I remember last season whenever the Canucks would lose, the very pessmisitic bandwagon fans here that go on perb would log in as soon as they can and start writing up negative stuff about how the team sucks, everyone should get traded, the coaches should get fired, etc, blah blah blah. And then whenever the Canucks would get a big win, you'll hear none of it here in perb. These anti-Canucks fans would just keep their mouths shut and you wouldnt hear a peep out of them until the next big loss.
So all you anti-Canucks fans, who seem to always know everything....where are you guys now??? Hello?? Hello???

well, I'm still posting about the Canucks ... and they still have a ways
to go against some tough competition ...

I didn't think the 'new' team had it to make it this far, but Luongo
has been an AMAZING goalie (too many years of Clouts letting
in the beach balls) ... I was happy to see us get Mitchell on D ...
but who was going to score the goals?

Naslund is still not earning the $6 million a year he earns ...
Kesler?
Cooke?
Chouinard?
Bulis?

Leaves the Sedins and thank-god-we-got Cowen!

I've always been a fan, but its been 12 years of crap
and shitty ownership and stupid decisions and bad trades
and yeah, I'm a little leary of swallowing a bottle of happy
pills just because this team isn't in the basement.

Let's see how they do against the Sharks tonight ...
