Why rush?

Far too often I see cars (mostly men) weave in and out of lanes to get nowhere fast.
Especially on Kingsway near Metrotown.

I prefer to take it easy and enjoy the scenery.
Check out the girls in their skirts.

Check your closet..:)
Once I counted 13 lane changes on Kingsway by the same car heading Est form Boundry Rd so that we both ended at the same red light on 10th Ave in New West.
I never changed lanes.

I searched for, but cannot find, an article I read a few years back that I think was on Bloomberg. Some German traffic researcher showed high correlation between female aggressive/impatient/lane change drivers and those with relationship issues and generally very poor self-esteem. For the men, they tended to be physically shorter (height but who knows if not both!) than average, had issues with self-confidence and typically could not keep a steady relationship. Interesting. In any event, when I see such drivers I tend to now think more in terms of pity than anything else - or perhaps shout out "sorry to hear about your penis!" or similar to the guys.

I love that. I spent a large part of my life as a truck driver and I used to love watching those fools.

I never rush,
I have a reputation for driving slow walking slow, to the point where people make fun of me, poke and tease me.

My answer there is only one place were all headed to, and I am going to take my fucking time getting there.

I ride a motorcycle. I am on hwy 1 alot and alot of times it is very busy. I ride defensively so i keep atleast a 2 second cushion from the car in front of me.
I shake my head at the ones that have to go around me and get in front only to get 3ft from the car in front of them. Somehow i am holding up traffic if
i am not riding like a Nascar race. They arent moving any faster in front of me than when behind me.

I have no problem staying within the speed limit. What I mostly object to is people who dominate the fast lane yet go under the posted speed limit. All that does is make people have to go around them to get into the faster moving lane. WTF is up with people who do that stuff? The weaving in and out of lanes would dramatically stop if slower moving drivers would stay in the right lane until they need to actually use the left lane.

No problem, just keep to the right then. Left lane for passing, right lane for people who could care less about getting somewhere.

in washington state on highway 2 east of everett they have signs every few miles saying, 'drivers with two or more vehicles following MUST pull out - strictly enforced'

and they provide good, safe pullout spots regularly... simplicity itself

What's frustrating is that there are more cars on the road every year and the roads are getting narrower thanks to the mayors bike lanes.
Yet cars are getting more powerful (Dodge Challenger Hellcat-707 HP) and for what reason so Vancouver motorists can drive 30-40km/hr or get stuck at a redlight?
Performance cars and Vancouver roads don't mix.

What we see here is $100K+ high end european cars with a "N" or "L" driving recklessly or an older lady who has no need for 500+HP as she is driving much below the speed limit.

Oh man, I avoid Kingsway like the plague these days. There's not enough individual left turn only lanes, so cars just blindly move in the lane over to their right.

There's also too many cars in the passing lanes that are doing 50 and under, regardless of traffic. That's causing some major problems along kingsway as well.

Finally you have the idiots who just have no patience in their sports car and want to go 90, regardless of traffic.

It's just a horrible mix of shitty drivers that makes Kingsway really unnecessarily dangerous.
then you've got hattrick swerving to the curb after every hot SW... it's a real nightmare out there :D

I used to speed and lane change a lot, when I was younger and easily frustrated by traffic... also because I enjoyed my "home time" and hated sitting in traffic. I still hate losing 1-2 hours a day in traffic, but I learned to just give myself more time... so it rarely bothers me anymore.

That said, people who don't signal lane changes or turns until the last minute (or not at all) still tend to send me into a lane change mode. But slow traffic? Nah.

Timing is everything:

Once upon a time, before retirement, I would read the Globe and Mail over my second cup of coffee, and then head in to work. For some reason, one day, I took the paper in to work and had my read and second cup there. The change in timing meant I saved ten minutes on my commute, so my daily habit changed. I know that change will not work for everyone, but it is worth a thought.

On the topic of failure to signal - a real pain - I think of an experience back in the day in Ontario. At that time OPP officers took their vehicles home with them. One morning I found myself following an OPP vehicle. There was no signaling through multiple turns and lane changes. When I got to work I phoned the local cop shop, and suggested that they might have a vehicle with malfunctioning turn signals. I have no idea if the call had any effect, but hopefully, someone was reminded of their responsibility.

For the last few months I have been riding my bicycle to work as much as possible. It's about fifteen km each way.
Huge difference in my quality of life! Stick to back streets and bike paths, nice quiet ride at my own pace. And it takes about the same amount of time!

The other night a guy went from left lane to right back to left lane in less than 10 feet.

A crazy thing I saw several years ago was a driver was trying to jump the green like a drag racer and I said 'fuck, why wait for the green, just go.' and he did then the light turned green about 2 seconds later.

Another where I turned right and about 5 seconds later 2 cars blow by me, I managed to catch up to them near a traffic light but the one car whom he was tailing braked on a yellow, he didn't want to stop so he braked and avoided to the left by that guy also braked for the light and the speeder braked and avoided a rear ender only to wedge between the car in the left lane and the curb of the grass median.
