Cut the BS, men are simply friends with women (lol usually a buddy's wife/gf!! j/k). But it's not so simple as that when people enjoy different activities. Been good friends with women who loved to snowboard, hike, scramble mountains and mountain bike - they're called 'cool chicks', did I originally end up trying to sleep with some of them? YOU BET! Hell I woulda slept with all of em but one (batshit crazy) if it was on the table, but as soon as they turned out to be 'cool chicks' sex ceased being any sort of priority. Besides 'cool chicks' that are actually your friends will pimp you to another woman you meet at the bar or wherever and make you look good. And trust me, she can talk game a hell of alot better and with much better success than you ever could - all you gotta do is keep your mouth shut and think "hell yea my friends are awesome!"

Women I've stopped being friends with because I was put into the "friend zone" were never really friends in the first place. You dont invite "friends" over to only partake in activities you enjoy, only watch movies you enjoy, cook dinner for you (never vice versa), doesn't try and convince you to spend time with them when they know you're about to head off to something you really enjoy; you see where I'm going with this right? I never stopped being friends with them cause they wont put out for me, but because they were just getting something out of it without giving back (see above, doesn't have to be sex, just make yourself good company ffs) so like I said - you were never really friends in the first place. And yea, as far as I'm concerned they can think whatever they like of me cause I'm definitly thinking good riddance of them. At that point I dont want to fuck em, as if they're already using me (for whatever reason), how bad would it get in a relationship - fuck I get screwed up enough as is, I dont need that bs with red flags waving right off the bat.

That ladder business is funny. I would have found it funny at 20, like I find it funny now, and I'm pretty sure I'll find it funny at 40. Like all satire, it's funny and good because there is some truth to it, just sift through the over exagerated and glorified garbage.

And what the fuck is a PUA? Can someone explain this to me?

But please carry on, your head exploding amuses me to no end.

Holly Crap! This is way to crazy for me at 3:30 in the morning. I had no idea being friends was so complicated. No wonder I have no friends and can never carry a relationship for more than 6 months. I can not handle the theory.

This just comfirms why I need to keep seeing my favorite SPs. Thank you ladies for making my life easy. Business is business and love is bullshit. Wow my head is spinning.

PUA = Pick Up Artists http://www.puaforums.com/ It's a "system" for picking up women.

All of it, Attractiveness Quotient, Ladder Theory, PUA use the same truism. People decide almost instantly if they will "bed" a person. So, if you are Shy, Unattractive, Boorishly Rude, Unhygienic, etc you don't have a hope of bedding any women. She looked at you, went "what rock did THAT crawl from under of?" and rejected you. All at the speed of light. It's practically impossible to overturn that decision.

Men used to understand that you simply didn't go out if you weren't showered, shaved, teeth brushed.

Now, PUA calls it "being on your game". You have to avoid having women immediately reject you.

There is also what used to be called "manners" or "politeness". Women always notice if you have gross personal habits. Even if she hadn't rejected you when she first met you, if you pick your nose, are a mouth breather or are always leering - she's going to reject you.

Women only date men that are a "step up" in attractiveness. So, you have to get past the first cull - that quick rejection.

Then - you get into how some men go onto the "friends ladder" and some men go onto the "real ladder". It's all about neediness/confidence. If the guy is needy and always offering to do stuff for the women, he goes on the "friends ladder". If the guy is confident and clearly can find another woman, the woman's competitive instincts kick in and you go on the "real ladder". You may not be at the top of her "real ladder" but if the guy at the top misses a rung, you may be the one that is called upon.
Oh god, does this have anything to do with a book called "the game"? Seriously we got a fellow at work spouting all this garbage. Care to guess who the only guy on site out of 300 people to get into a sexual harrasment issue is? Most of that drivel is either a) common sense/knowledge b) basic psychology. Seriously, being clean when you go out is a no brainer. Mouth breathing will get you on my reject list as well. I've been a step down a time or two - it had to do with the fact I was fun and nice (shocker!). Sure I know of some of the women this affects - I've no interest in them, probably the type I'm reading about in the thread "more expensive..." that actually do have a financial cost associated with em. But then again I've always been immediatly turned off when I hear "we should go to dinner some time", really?! but the beach is right there, tons of FUN things we can do at the beach, oddly enough you can do those things while talking which is really the only reason to go to dinner with someone anyways (i'm a little adhd, sue me). About people holding onto first impressions for dear life; yea not interested in those either. If you cant reform your own opinions, I have doubts about your abilities to grow as a human being (this applies moreso to people my own age who lack the life experiences of say someone 60 yrs old). I've seen lots of people change their original impressions (mind you I did grow up with rampant alcohol and drug use, kinda always forced to reasses your beliefs in that scenario /shrug).

The fact I may have agreed with the anti christ on something just made me throw up a little in my mouth

This is a smart man.

I don't know if the head exploding comment was meant for me but I actually agree 100% with you.

btw PUA is a fairly new one for me too. That's why I was going to include links in my post but your comment just made me realize I forgot to. PUA=Pick up Artist. It is as cheesy as it can possibly get.

No I'm a dumb monkey who throws alot of crap at the wall.....sometimes it sticks.

Really my point was that although the conversation had turned into alot of men making light of the ladder theories and poking some fun at women, we dont really always think that way..... We're just alot of men who've been burned (translation: we can be damn bitter!)

Then again I had a group of female acquaintances that called me "princess" (didn't stop a few of them from fooling around with me though, one of them was a savior to me as she realized quite early at a certain point of drunkness I'd go home with just about anything and would scoot me out of there to her or my place - pretty safe on her part as being that drunk I'd either pass out 15mins from hitting the bed or be walking out of the room in 10 going "oooo shiny" only to come back 2mins later "ooooo my cloths", always good for a laugh, and always ever so grateful afterwards for keeping me from doing something really dumb she basically drank for free the next time we'd be out) so maybe i'm just odd.

So, some friends got benefits and the friendship continued, and with others it didn't. I am curious as to which friends were selected for benefits and which weren't, and how things went later on with the friendship continues crowd. Did they ask for a repeat?

As for those friends who wanted equivalent benefits, were denied, and walked away, I wonder it the good riddance sentiment might be mutual?

Depends. Some became FWB (that's friends with benefits btw lol) for some time then back to just friends (without benefits) when one of us started dating someone (one of them, which was quite a while ago, is still a good friend, no sex, even when both single and I used to visit and stay with him for a couple of days whenever I went to Edmonton, where he lives now so there could have been lots of opportunity). Still good friends, back to being platonic. Some just eventually lost touch or occasional message on facebook for birthdays and such lol

As an aside, out of that specific group of guys I hung out with and went out with often, he was the only one I ever would have bothered to have sex with because while they were all a lot of fun to go out with, I have no doubt that not one of them could have remained a friend after sex, none of them had friendships with women that were more than a pretext to try to get laid. Guys like that are not FWB material IMO. They can be one night stand material, obviously if they're not part of your social circle - and of course, if you're into that sort of thing. But generally speaking, aside from the odd time when you say what the hell (or drunken vacation hook up lol), I think most girls know one night stands are overall, for the most part usually a big let down. FWB is the way to go, it's the best of both worlds. Ex boyfriends often make great FWB but not all of them, depends how things ended and how much time has passed obviously (not to mention if they were any good in bed then LOL). Anyway...... Where was I? Oh right...

As for the faux-friends - I'm sure it (good riddance) was mutual but I don't really care. If you want to be friends, awesome. If you're (not you personally lol) just pretending to be friends to get in my pants, I'm not interested - why would I be? At least if you came right out, cut the bs and be up front about really only being interested in sex, that might not change my mind but I'd probably not think of you as a creep as much as when you're being dishonest. I've got real friends, thanks. lol

The idea for some seems to be that women are using guys in the friends ladder, which for one is just generalizing, and is really not taking responsibility for one's own actions. No one gets used if they don't allow themselves to be used or continue to allow it once they realize what's happening. Not only is that woman not thinking of that guy as a friend but instead as a doormat or a personal lackey, but why would someone think that is how friends (opposite sex or not) treat each other? Or assume that playing that role should entitle you to sex, so if that doesn't happen it then makes sense to get bitter?

Why would or should a woman want to have sex with someone who's 1) pretending to be friends in order to 2)only wants to have sex with her. She's probably got male friends who aren't demanding sex for their (pretend) gift of "friendship", what would be so appealing to her that a guys fake friendship should make her so grateful she just has to reward him with sex? Hmm. Really? Do men really think that is going to sound like a "good deal" or an appealing proposition to a woman - who probably has met a few like you before? Unlikely. She'll be rolling her eyes and thinking "don't let the door hit your ass on the way out, buddy." And she'll call a real friend saying "Can you believe that jerk... As if I need a friend like that (Nevermind, a lover). Whatever buddy." ;)

Clearly some men here and in general cannot even conceive of a friendship with a woman that isn't based on their motivation to get laid. I wouldn't be surprised if that's probably true for the majority of them. But it's their loss, really. And blaming women for seeing through it doesn't change the fact that some men are quite capable of having female friends and know very well it's not absolutely impossible. It's a very limiting way to see things IMO and it's their own loss for not being open to a different way of relating with people and everything interesting you can experience or learn from real friendships with people of the opposite sex. But no matter what I can say about it or what a guy who values female friendships as more than a ruse to get laid, I don't think guys who don't get will ever really get it or see any appeal to it.

Different attitudes, mentalities, I guess. That's fine but it shouldn't be surprising that women aren't impressed IMO. And they should know many women have had plenty of real friendships with men so we're not likely to think the fakers are somehow doing us such a big favor in (pretending) to offer friendship. That's all... (for now ha!)

Yes, I understand that. I did think some of it was funny. I just think it gets a bit tricky to keep up these elaborate theories and schemes because it sort of over amplifies things too much and can influence people to take it too seriously, which IMO is damaging. And god knows we (men/women) already misunderstand each other enough as it is...we don't need anymore reason to. lol If that makes sense..

Read very carefully "How she says NO determines which "ladder" I'm on." If she says no as in "I don't think of you that way" - you are on the friend's ladder. If she says no as in "how about we have dinner and dessert on Friday" you are on the real ladder.

Well, what if she says Hell Yeah....what then? (Do you secretly hope for that answer and carry condoms just in case?) :p

Just curious...

What if she's interested but turned off/offended by your proposal so soon and interprets it as your motivation for showing any interest?

:D The real problem with option 2 is that I seem to be a "Gay Magnet" :D I have a LOT of Gay Female Friends.

haha I was going to call you a fag hag but double checked to make sure it applies to straight men friendships with gay women. Good thing because apparently it does not. No, you allinburnaby, are not a fag hag but rather....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fag_hag

Fag hag is a gay slang phrase referring to a woman who either associates mostly or exclusively with gay and bisexual men, or has gay and bisexual men as close friends. The phrase originated in gay male culture in the United States and was historically an insult. Some women who associate with gay men object to being called fag hags, while others embrace the term. The male counterpart, for men who have similar interpersonal relationships with gay and bisexual men is fag stag, part of hag-ism, the identification of a person with a group—usually united in terms of sexuality, gender identity, or shared sex—of which he or she is not officially a member. However, it must be stated that some, if not many "fag stag" "relationships" are merely the result of straight men who go to gay bars with gay men in order to "pick up" straight women, as the gay bar scene is considered to be a safe one for straight women, hence, their usual social defenses would be in a far more relaxed state than they would be if the meeting occurred in a straight singles bar. For men who have many lesbian friends the slang terms Dutch Boy, lesbro or dyke tyke apply.

People who associate with lesbian, gay and bisexual people may be called fruit flies regardless of their sex.

You learn something new everyday, I guess. I had NO idea there were specific slang terms. Not sure I like any of them more than fag hag. I never thought of it as an insult personally and I've used it about myself - joking around - but I guess some people are touchy. I don't know. I just think it's a great term. (Though I had no idea this much could be written about it.)

But anyway, which one would you prefer to be referred to as? If I had to choose, I'd go with Dutch Boy. Lesbro and dyke tyke (?) seem pretty tacky if you ask me! lol :p

And some women can't conceive of being in a relationship with a man without having a sense that in some way the man will help her.

In your line of work I thought you would understand men and women better.

And no I'm not going to take the time to try and explain it to you.

And don't try and say that you do, because from your post - it's obvious you don't have a freakin clue on what you think you are talking about.

There are more than a few women who use men for money/security, and there are more than a few men who use women for sex or arm candy.

And even though not every woman uses a man for money, not every guy uses a woman for sex.

Women lie and men lie.

Hate to burst your bubble, but women are no better than men and vice versa.

Whenever large sums of money are involved things get complicated. I dated an sp & she was telling me when she worked for an agency she would always carry her purse with her & never let it out of her sight, i asked why? & she said the girls where stealing from each other. It's hard to fathom considering how much money these girls make. I guess drugs have a lot to do with it.Money is a devider, not only in relationships but life in general.
No matter how much you make,it's never enough.

... indicating that they are available sexually - and is only angling for friends without benefits, what gets me peeved is the dishonesty.
Exactly my point. But I go further, many even lie to themselves knowing the man is only looking for sex, telling themselves he is looking for friendship, so they can reap the rewards of male friendship which usually means:

a) favours, b) handywork, c) car rides, d) advice about men, and the list goes on and on.

And what is offered in return? Well most women are not that handy, aren't going to come over and fix your computer, aren't going to fix your car, will give you advice on women (but only after they've chewed your ear off about all the guys they're tormenting themselves over ad nauseum), aren't going to loan you money (because they usually have less than you), aren't going to cook a meal for you (because they're too busy cooking meals for the guy they're fucking), aren't going to give you career-centric advice to help you advance (because they're usually too low in that career, if they have one you could call a career at all), etc.

Friendship for men is usually satisfied by the fraternity of male society. Unfortunately women usually have little to offer, which is why I have only had 2 good and true female friends in my life (both of which I have never had any desire to fuck and vice-versa), who I respected as intelligent, established and accomplished persons. For men, only intimacy is lacking and that is what men are looking for from women. Women, on the other hand, need not only friendship from persons of any gender, but want assistance from the world of men because other women are helpless because they themselves are clueless how to survive effectively in this world despite the fact that they partake in it by using computers, driving cars, use appliances, strive to have careers, etc. For this reason many women resort to deception to sucker in those men stupid enough to think they might get a chance to fuck her when in fact she had decided long ago there would be no chance of that but to be used in service to her.

Unfortunately Bijou takes this dynamic and turns it upside down, baring a twisted logic that shows how the disinterested loathing and self-referencing there is in her world view, which seems to exist in a vacuum:

Hey Mr Chip-on-my-shoulder :)

#1 I never said the world is filled with only kind, honest people who only want the best for you.

There are assholes out there. Some are male, some are female. What matters is that they are assholes. Not whether they stand or sit to pee. People who insist on making comments like yours need to try therapy for their unresolved issues.

#2 I certainly don't know where I even hinted that women are better than men. Are you serious? Where the hell does that one comes from.

#3 I talk about my experiences with friendship that related to my personal life and you are telling me I'm wrong and supposedly should know better because of the work I. What in the world does being an sp have to do with my personal experiences and friendships with men and how the fuck do you know whether I'm wrong. LOL Talk about having balls.

Frankly I don't even know what the hell you think you read because your response has absolutely nothing to do with my post so maybe ditch the chip or get another one for the other shoulder, I don't know, but I don't know what your point is supposed to be or what it has to do with what I wrote or bursting my bubble or whatever other non sense you're going on about.

Get a grip.

You do realize allinbby is talking about his female friends who are gay, as in he knows he's not getting sex and they know he's not expecting it, right?

wow I've often enjoyed reading some of your posts but I have to tell you, that makes you sound like one of the harshest assholes. Seriously. Read it over. It doesn't lead me to expect you to have the faintest clue about male/female friendships if that is the way you determine someone's "worth" to you. Like any kind of relationship between people, it has to be give and take and not one sided. Women who are trying to get That makes them bad friends, bad people to keep around and people unworthy of your attention. The fact that they are women has nothing to do with the fact that they are selfish or manipulative.

You know what. I have met my share of asshole pos, as most every one has at one time or another but probably more than the average person. Apparently, I am a magnet. Or used to be anyway. But I am also very lucky to have met some genuinely good people, none of it was based on what specific thing they could do for me. And none of it had to do with whether they were male or female. You guys need to get over having to make this about women or men based on your use your own hangups. What I am saying is what to look for in a friend, whether male or female is the same. Unless all your males friends use you then it shouldn't be too difficult to judge. So your male friends, they all specifically offer one of these, and you to them? That is how you have chosen your male friends or is it just for women because they need to be able to offer something if not sex?

If you have no other interest in spending time with women unless it is spent having sex or trying to get there, that's fine. But you can't say that's the case for all men because it's not. You don't know a man who has female friends? Frankly after you've just made it clear how you feel about it, I'm not surprised. And if you did, I somehow doubt they would tell YOU about it. I believe you when you talk about your take on friendships and I agree with you that many, many men feel that way and that it's fine. But your "criteria" for someone's, a woman more specifically worthiness of your consideration and friendship is really kind of sad, if you ask me. Nevermind that it's super offensive.

Unfortunately Bijou takes this dynamic and turns it upside down, baring a twisted logic that shows how the disinterested loathing and self-referencing there is in her world view, which seems to exist in a vacuum:

I have no idea what the hell that even means. Not a clue. Seriously.

Oh, it must be my helplessness in the world, which is making me clueless to survive effectively in the world of.............. ASSHOLES?

That's right. MY BAD.

I've had LOTS of ASSHOLE things said to me on perb. I like to think I can take it - and I know I should because I dish it out. But I have to admit I'm really amazed how I could get this kind of responses after my last post. To me, there is absolutely nothing that I see as insulting, offensive or that could be interpreted as an attack in what I wrote. Maybe I'm not expressing myself properly, I don't know. But I don't see it. One person gets pissed at things I'm supposed to have said, which I didn't, not even close. I may fuck for work and I know this may sound like the most craaaaaazy concept but I actually do think I'm at least a little bit more than a walking pussy. It's nice to know that you refuse to believe there could possibly be anything that could be of any interest to you or any man - than access to it.

Well, that puts me in my place.

Must. Remember. My Worth = My Pussy
Well, on the good side, makes me glad at least I'm getting paid for it and not giving away my only asset for free, eh?!

Thank you for reminding me, I don't know what I was thinking.

Nice discussing with you. No, really. Super pleasant.

Hey, people steal the spare roll of Toilet Paper. I have a guest bathroom which is the only one that people visit my house are allowed to use. I always have to replace the Toilet Paper.

My ex-brother-in-law had a test for people applying for employment. The receptionist would leave her purse with a $20 peeking out. If the $20 was stolen, the person had already failed the interview. He'd play the tape of the person stealing and inform them that he didn't wish to employ them. The $20 was stolen more than half of the time. A few people would also do a more extensive search of the purse. They were the ones that he had arrested as they left the building.

The reality is that over half of the population will steal from you if they think that they can get away with it. A quarter of the population will steal from you, deny it, and the only way to recover the stolen property is to have them arrested.
Isn't that entrapment? Your probably right though, my phylosophy has always been stick it to the man, but never ever steal from ordinary working folks.

You realize that jesuschrist was referring to my comments on women I asked for a date and NOT my comments on women that I haven't asked for a date because I know that they are sexually unavailable to me?
Of course I didn't realize that. Clueless and helpless as I am, I was distracted with the difficult task of zipping up my pants. I'm still trying to figure it out. I hope tying my shoes doesn't turn out to be this complicated because I'll never manage. Phew. I need a break after all this mental work,

Wow...you just made yourself extremely unattractive. I get sarcasm, especially after a long debate it gets frustrating to keep trying to get points across to others who are getting your point, but still dismiss it. BUT, and yes that is a big but, it does not help you to be condescending in your use of language if people don't agree with you, and it doesn't help your cause, whether it's for veggies or why men cheat aka the battle of the sexes.

I know you're intelligent, and are resourceful, sharp witted, and acidic like a belly full of hotsauce in bed at 3am, and you're out of Zantac 150...it's not helping and it's hurting your cred. You might not care, but I do. I liked and even cheered your posts before in the past. I agreed with you on points of opinion, and thought that you were a wonderful liberal...small 'L'...with a good head on her shoulders. I think I was wrong.

Men have to cheat because women constantly cheat when they are younger. Whether it's physical or emotional, women love to have a flock of men at their beck and call. Not all but the prettier females like to have an entourage of men to inflate their ego. They have back-ups and back-ups to fall on if the relationship doesn't work.

I used to believe in monogamy but now because of what I seen in my life, I believe if a guy has a chance to cheat he better because unless your SO is a total introvert who's physically unattractive with no contact with other men, she's cheating on you emotionally or physically.

Velcro shoes imo. They've helped me immensely, I can now save my brain power for other things like remembering to breath, or chew before swallowing.
