I'm not someone with Admin or programming experience, but is there no feature that would be able to automatically lock a thread that's been inactive for, let's say, 1 or 2 years.
Seems to me if the thread's are around more or less permanently, and can turn up in the results when people search for them, then inevitably someone people are going to forget to check the last posting date and try to add some new reply.
Auto-deleting threads might destroy too much useful information, and manually locking every inactive thread is maybe too much work for Mods, and but surely there's some way to do it automatically and just put up a notice "thread locked due to long term inactivity" ...

Some Mod: "Well maybe there isn't ... and stop calling me Shirley."

If the mods could make that change happen, it would have already been done. That level of board programming is admin only type area. It has been requested.

FYI, for those who have complained that 6 months isn't long enough, many other boards keep it to 30 days!

As to the issue of why it happens, I have many theories. Most of them revolve around the fact that most guys are stupid. They are searching for a particular person or key word and don't look at the date. They are pining for someone long gone, they are too lazy to start a new thread and link to the old one. We also have ladies who are returning from a long time away from the business who are bumping old reviews or topics to try to get clients to remember them and slip in some stealth advertising. Happens less than the first group, but it happens.

I understand the problem with necro-posting, but.... I just had an interesting experience because some old threads were not redacted. There have been recent threads taking some of us down memory lane, and that prompted me to check out someone I met more than 10 years ago. Much to my enlightenment, there were a number of threads relating to said person, and were they ever informative!!!! The threads tended to deal with superlatives, and sadly, made me realize that I had not fully recognized the quality of the gem I had encountered. Much of the reason for that was I was fairly new to perb at the time, and did not fully appreciate the wealth of information contained in perb.

I will agree that some of the necro-posting is stupid, but on the other hand some of the old threads provide us old timers with an enjoyable trip down memory lane.

So lack of blood flow is the main cause. I guess we can't all be Einsteins lol

Your correct local guy. Lack of blood flow to the brain is the main cause of stupidity. But the main reason for lack of blood flow to the brain is a hard cock. When the blood flows to the cock it empties the brain. Therefore men with a hardon can't think straight. Experienced whores know this, wives know this, girl friends know this. But men always forget, because once the cock gets hard, the brain gets soft.

When I am thinking about “A DATE”, I could care less about that little teendsie posting ‘date’. Too much blood flow diversion required.

I suspect >62% of necro posts are unintentional. Yes, horny=stupid when it comes to most things.

I honestly don’t understand the issue with posting on old threads?
The mods lock the threads that go sideways. So nothing that has already been deemed as wrong can be commented on.
Wouldnt commenting on “dead” threads be necroposting? Which is impossible because those threads are locked.
The only reason I see to have issue would be because it takes up space on clouds or servers or whatever holds all this detritus.
No criticism here, just no understanding either.

Originally there was a technical reason for the necro posting rule, when PERB was younger there was a long lost sticky about it, I guess the servers were smaller and as PERB grew they were over worked. It also covered members who stayed logged on continuously. Eventually the servers got upgraded but the rule stayed.

I’m confused…..you say the servers got an upgrade ?
So your saying the waitresses at the Perb office lounge got boob jobs?
Fuck I’d love to be a Mod.
