Will a Canadian team ever win the Stanley Cup again?

It's been 17 years and counting. Canadian teams used to dominate the NHL. Now they're all mediocre at best. I thought after the lockout a few years back, the small market teams were supposed to have a better chance. It doesn't seem to have worked out that way.:(

You need another option:

Who Cares - Chicago probably has as many or more Canadians on their team that most Canadian based teams.

I care! I hate cheering for American teams. In most big league sports in North America we have no choice but to cheer for an American team.

Now in hockey too?? Our Canadian sport??

What I don't get, is why the Canadian teams can't attract better management to build a good team.

uh...Edmonton.
market share? dollar parity? how about....a sneaky and pernicious plot to simply say...."here you go Americano's, this is our game. Make it better". They have done that....although purists will argue against that with good reason.

I am sure it is a conspiracy to lull the Americans into thinking they have the best....lord knows we have our imported sprinters on the field. Not to mention golfers, Stephen Ames??? O.k. fine, you live in Calgary, you are Canadian.

I still have my eye on that golf ball across the avenue....no life.

kindest,

eddie.

Edmonton or Toronto. If they suck badly enough for long enough, they should have some good draft picks and if they don't trade them away or pick poorly, they too can draft their Crosby/Malkin or Ovechkin/Semin duo.

Though, as this year has shown, even that duo doesn't guarantee a winner. It's a pretty hard cup to win and only 1 team out of 30 gets to lift it. Canadian teams are only 6 out of that 30 so odds are not always favourable. On top of that, we only had 3 teams in the playoffs this year at all.

Yeah, the odds aren't great. But with 6 teams out of 30 a Canadian team should win 1 out of every 5 years. What's the problem?? It's been 17 years!!!

Agreed - Who cares! I don't really care one way or another as long as it's not the Rangers, Flyers, or a John Tortorella coached team.

Winnipeg would have been my first choice but Montreal will due...

If you hate American teams, why are you cheering for them?

I don't care who wins I'm just a fan of the sport
Don't make this into an Anti-American thing. I too am a fan and as such will find myself cheering for an American team during the final. I like the Hawks, btw.

I'd just like to see a Canadian team win again. Sadly though, I think it might be a very long time coming.

The problem is the Canadian traitors, that go play for American teams. We should have a rule about that. Canada is by far the Superior hockey country. There are just more Americans and because there are more of them, they can draft more of our players with more money. If Canadians refused to go play for Americans, then we would do all the ass kicking. I say throw tomatoes at them when they try and leave, and don't let them come back! That will fix them ! :D Stupid materialism anyway. It should be about passion for your country and the sport, not who pays the most !

The last great Canadian team were the Senators, when they had Hasek, Chara, the top line of Spezza, Heatley, Alffy and lots of snipers. That team would have rocked anyone to a cup victory but Hasek blew a groin or something and the Sabres upset them.

I don't get excited about a "another Canadian team" advancing because I know full well that any team that advances in the playoffs IS a mostly Canadian team with the exception of our "Swedish" Canuck team!

Btw, the Oil's gonna do it next! They're f**** stacked with high end prospects. They remind me a lot like Chicago and LA. Hall, Eberle, Svensson...... just to name a few (each will turn into at least a 70 point guy.)

The next 5 years are gonna be EXIIIIIITING!
After the hell we poor Oiler fans have been through the last few years I sure hope so Doc! I'll believe it when I see it.
