just saw on espn.com that the Leafs bought out Mikhail Grabovski's contract.
the article went on to say that he'd signed a 5yr-27M contract IN MARCH.

holy cash-waste,batman, sign a guy to a big$ deal& off-load him 4 months later?
is JFJ still running the show?no,wait, that's right, it's Nonis.

head-shaker,maybe someone can explain this one.

He signed the contract in March 2012 and the GM responsible is none other than Brian Burke. So you are a year off and blamed the wrong GM.

Dave Nonut was Brian's right hand man as an assistant. Grabovski was one of their most talented players.
Habs fans know Grabovski quite well. We all collectively peed our pants when Burke signed him to that ridiculous contract. He's not skilled enough to be the 1st line centre, too small for your traditional checking/physical 3rd line centre and way too expensive for a 2nd line centre. Most talented out of a bunch of talentless pylons, that I agree with you...;)

I just re-read the espn item I saw this am,sorry, don't know how to put it on here.It just said March, without a year.
If I followed a little closer I s/ve known,thx for the correction.

even March,2012,seems a short time,16months, to make a big change of direction like that?

Ironically, Burke signs him to that deal...the same Burke who would regularly lambaste his gm colleagues for overspending
on ufa's.

I heard Burke was the one that led the charge on implementing the Roberto Luongo rule in the new CBA as well.

Well, Grabovski wasn't playing in the top 6 under Carlyle, and probably wouldn't this year. He was like a 3rd and 4th liner making 5 mill per. So they bought him out, and now they have 20 million to spend.

Move makes sense to me. Nonis is stuck with Brian Burke's player.

Hear his interview? Pretty pissed off player there.
