My vote goes to Gilles......... Trades for Derek Roy and gives up a prospect and the Canucks second round pick. Derek Roy 5'9 inches. Then after the Nucks get bounced four straight......he says" We have to get bigger" WTF? I mean....this guy is throwing darts at the board. No plan other than saying his ass. :frusty::canada::doh: Happy Canada day eh!! Canucks will NOT make the playoffs this year. Edmonton will take their place.

KEVIN LOWE He isn't GM but I really don't know what his role is. He is higher than GM, so I will blame him for Oilers lack lustre years. His record speaks for itself.

Thing is about Lowe that even though he is clueless, all the #1 draft picks over the years will make a top tier team once again; assuming they can keep them all together. Remember when Chicago was at the bottom of the heap? People will then think Lowe is a genius when they make a play off run.

Calgary's current ownership and management have not exactly been brain trusts either. Always right at the top of the Cap and with limited capabilities to improve their team. Now that Iggy has gone they have some Cap space for improvement.

Jack Gordon as Canucks GM traded away Cam Neely for Barry Pederson. Worst Trade Ever although Gillis will do his damndest to try to beat Gordon before he finally gets the boot.

I think the worst part of that was that in addition to Neely the Canucks gave up a first round pick that became Glen Wesley, who was later traded for 3 first round picks that became Kyle Mclaren, Jonathan Aitken and Sergei Samsonov. Samsonov ended up getting traded to Edmonton for the pick that became Milan Lucic. Mclaren got traded for Jeff Jillson who got traded for Brad Boyes who then got traded for Dennis Wideman.

Chicago was at the bottom of the league for so long because they had an owner in William Wadsworth "Dollar Bill" Wirtz who wouldn't take his team out of the 70's/ 80's . Wouldn't pay his players going rate. He had no realTV contracts, figuring that buts in the seats were far more important. It wasn't the GM's fault in the development of the team. He Alienated his alumni players. Under the ownership of Wirtz, the Chicago Blackhawks were named by ESPN in 2004 as the worst franchise in sports.

The Best day and the day when the blackhawks started their progression to the top was 5 minutes after his death in 2007.

So in essence by having a cheap ass owner allowed the Hawks to gather up first round draft picks year after year. Hence the parallel with the Oilers. Their group were unable to pony up the $$ and let the team sink to the bottom, gathering first round draft picks just as the Hawks did over five or six years ago.

Same thought you just worded it differently that's all.

Same thing with the pens too, not cheap but just bankrupt.

I think Phoenix might be screwing themselves long term by being too competitive though...

although I don't know if they're to be considered in the ranks of Worst GM's,I can think of cpl gm's who made 2 of the worst trades.

Tommy Ivan gm of Chicago sent Phil Esposito,Ken Hodge&Fred Stanfield to Boston for Pit Martin, Gilles Marotte,& a backup goalie
I think, named Jack Norris.

One of the all-time worst deals.

to be fair to Ivan, he,and his staff, made gd moves cpl yrs later,as the 69-70 team featured Keth Magnussen,Cliff Koroll,Dan Maloney,Tony Esposito, who,I think,
was still considered a rookie, tho' he'd played some games with the Habs.
that team probly s/ve won the Cup in '71.

Doug Riseborough was a gd player with Habs&Flames but got fleeced by his mentor,Cliff Fletcher in a trade around Xmas,'91.
Doug Gilmour went to Tor&a guy named Leeman, who had somehow had a 50 goal season, came West.
there were cpl others involved, think a backup goalie named Reese(?)but the main thing was, Gilmour for not much in return.

Do you believe the Blackhawks would have made and won the Cup final in 2010 and 2013 if William Wirtz was still alive and in control of the Franchise?
not a chance,imo.

as ghoulish as it sounds, the franchise began the turnaround when he dropped the baton.

I know the question wasn't directed at me, just my 2 cents worth, lol.

I think most Habs fan would agree that Rejean Houle was the worst Habs GM ever.

Glen Sather, post-2000 has a pretty pathetic record (especially when it comes to the signing of UFAs). He's getting a free pass because of his Edmonton days.

As for Mike Gillis, not even close.

Mike Milbury.

Worst in league currently? Paul Holmgren is pretty bad.. Jay Feaster is on that list..and I agree with the comments about Sather getting a free ride from his EDM days.

Can someone explain to me something about Paul Holmgren? He buys out Danny Briere who has produced for the Flyers. Then today he signs Vinny Lecavalier who's best days are behind him to a 5 year, 22 Million dollar contract. Does this make sense? What a waste of a buyout

I know, I couldn't phukking believe it. Vinny may be another buyout candidate in 2 years. These GM's really need to be protected from themselves.

The Lock Out sure made a difference huh?!?! Morons!
Holmgren's getting pushed by Snider to win a cup while he is still alive and they have all that Comcast money backing them so they can make crazy moves like that.

If they have all this money from Comcast, why don't they take on Luongo's contract. The cap hit isn't that bad and if he doesn't pan out, they can always buy him out. Vinny will not solve the Flyers goaltending issues..... and I don't think anyone is convinced Steve Mason can be a number one in a full season

Because of the new CBA there are cap recapture penalties if Luongo retires early and their are goaltending options available out there that do not have those issues (Halak, Miller etc.).
