Totally agree on this- Joie Noble Blend is a killer white- we've been drinking it for years now. Very reminiscent of the great Alsace wines France. Hands-down the BEST white blend produced in BC, regardless of price point.

Brunello di Montalcino in Italy is made from one grape (Sangiovese Grosso) as is Chianti Ruffina (Sangiovese), Barolo and Barbaresco (Nebbiolo). Then there's most of the Red Burgundy communes in France like Nuits Saint-Georges, Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny which only uses Pinot Noir while in southern Burgundy Beaujolais is made only of the Gamay grape. While most of the great whites of Burgundy like Chablis, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Puilly-Fuisse are made only of Chardonnay grapes. Another great French wine, Sancerre is made only of Sauvignon Blanc for the white and Pinot Noir for the red and rose.

You forgot to mention the Cornas AOC, which permits only 100% Syrah. It's also unnecessary to single out Sancerre, as the entire Loire Valley tends towards single varietals, as well as Alsace. And pretty much all of Germany and Austria.
But yeah, blends have always been the rule, rather than the exception, for even the finest of wines. And one of the dirty "secrets" of the wine world is that EU regs (as well as those for most of the world) permit single varietal labeling with only a minimum of 85%, so excepting a specific region's laws or producer's practices, you could very well getting a blend of some sort, anyways.
There are a few whites I like, I am more a Micro Brewery man so when it comes to wine I basically just pick something that catches my eye.

Joie Noble Blend is excellent!!
Yalumba out of Australia has a very tasty organic Viognier- quite smooth on the entry with a decent finish- similar to a Napa Chard. Reasonably priced at about $18. Cono Sur out of Chile also has a delicious Viognier- tastes a bit younger and a wee bit drier, but at $11 a bottle it offers incredible value.
I agree re: the Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc, and the Cono Sur Bicicletta Viognier is great, a great deal too.
I buy wine for others based on the label or the bottle as I rarely drink wine or like the taste of it . . . regardless of brand or vintage. I haven't had anyone ever complain or whine because I didn't purchase their favorite. I have seen wine taste testers do blind tasting and choose some brands that they poo poo with blindfolds off and think the reality is all wines pretty much taste alike and it's the hype and reviews that make the difference. So I will continue choosing wines by the clever and delightful labels over the plain ones at $60 a bottle
