There are safe areas in nearly every country where tourists are generally safe. When I was there a security detail was non negotiable. Do remember going looking for pussy in a place like that is different than soaking up the sun at a hotel. You may not know the customs and the language. You can take a wrong turn walking and end up where you don't want to be. The real complicating factor is the police can be very corrupt and gringo = money. That's the case of many countries in Latin & South America.

If one insists on Latina females Costa Rica is a much better choice overall & also much safer. Or roll the dice and just drive across to Tijuana, Mexico. If you do drive just make sure you really research driving your car across the border especially if you have an outstanding loan on it.
Actually I am more of an active traveller, so I tend to avoid touristic hotels and neighbourhoods. I do things like visit remote wilderness areas, rural communities and when in cities, go to 'real neighbourhoods'. My starting point isn't to be afraid, but to be careful. In the time I spent in Colombia, I only met one couple that had been broken into and no other traveller had been or knew of anyone that had been robbed or a victim of violence. And people were talking about safety a lot and for locals, especially in Medellín, changing the reputation of their city was an ongoing project. Maybe you were there in the past when FARC still was a real threat. I was there in 2015 and had no problems. Even went to soccer matches.

The Baht buses in Pattaya were a good way to enjoy the nightlife from hotel or various areas.

In PI - although speak English I had a terrible time with the Tagalog accents.

I preferred the taller in my view overall more attractive Thai women vs typically shorter in PI. but of course little English.

While living and gals are a lot less expensive if your just a tourist the airfare unless a long stay to me offset the low hotel and hobby costs. I did love Eva Air Evergreen service via Taiwan but I would go crazy in couch being 6-2. Eva Evergreen was only slighly more expensive than coach and very nicel lots of legroom etc. But now its about $2000 RT from Phoenix and a LONG flight.

My solution for the last decade or so has been Toronto/Mississauga/Niagara Falls especially nude-reverse parlors and all the strip clubs. Now the incalls are also nice. Yes more expensive but in my view far more practical. I get nice hotels at about $US45/night using Priceline bidding (Courtyards, Ramada's and about last 3 trips Novetel.

Long ago enjoyed the lower costs of all the Sannach and then Victoria incalls after Sheriff ran out of Saanich. But Toronto area has so many more options and looks like now companion costs are back up to $200+/hr so will stick to Ontario.

The action in Nogales Mexico is terrible. The bars want more than Vancouver prices and the street girls are most likely a rip off. When I was in Tuscon AZ last week the strip cluba were more affordable than Nogales.

It's been many years but sounds like things haven't changed much in SE Asia. Don't think you ca go wrong in any of those places. My favourite of the 3 was Vietnam (this is 10yrs ago mind you). Was in Hanoi and so much positive energy, friendliness, clean, easy to get around. Didn't see any women that trip but it was still pretty awesome. Lots to see and do in the city and countryside.

But again, don't think you'll have a bad time at any spot. In Thailand, Phuket and Ko Samui were my fave spots - get a hotel room near the beach for almost nothing, meals were amazing, diving was amazing (earned my PADI basic from a oil rig diver who lived 6 mos there, 6 mos on the rigs), women were beautiful and plentiful :). I thought Manila and Bangkok were too busy and smoggy for my tastes (tho a boat tour of the rivers and canals around Bangkok was pretty darn cool).

Enjoy and give us a trip report after!

I hear good things about Costa Rica. I have wanted to go for awhile, might make my way out there in the spring.

Reviewing my budget right now... this is going to take some planning to get it in there, otherwise, I will have to carry over savings to next year. Back to number crunching! Thanks for the input folks :)

I backpacked all over South East Asia for 4 months. I would definitely say Vietnam was the most interesting for me. Cambodia was great for a limited time,, I found it quite a challenging place to feel comfortable. Malaysia is also really great. Thailand is a tourist trap and Laos was a bit boring but great for doing nature tours.

I've spent time in the Red Light district in Bogota, Colombia. Took a cab directly from my hotel to a reputable bar, then had my cabbie wait for me while I did my *ahem* "professional research." I used common sense--went with a friend, ordered a beer and removed the cap myself, kept an eye on my drink, stayed relatively sober, etc. I didn't have any issues, other than the language barrier (my fault--I need to brush up on my Spanish), although everyone seemed confused as to why I was there, and I got a mixture of glares from the ladies and whistles from the guys, and my cab driver was smirking the whole way back to the hotel.
