62 million mortgages that can miss multiple payments or simply cease being paid and they can't easily be foreclosed on. lol, Only in the USA. It's going to take years of litigation just to determine who is the mortgage holder and how they can acquire the right to foreclose on the house.

Not the time to own equity shares in a financial institution that holds American mortgages.

http://seekingalpha.com/article/221...n-could-62-million-homes-be-foreclosure-proof
Well DUH....the American housing market was the death of itself " hey honey....we bought the house for 300 grand with 5% down and have paid jack shit on it....the house is now worth 500 grand on paper...lets borrow a shitload of money against it and by stuff like matching jet skis and a large truck that we dont need since we are so RICH on paper"

The housing situation in the USA is just that....people that heavily borrowed against equity that they did not have....it is running havok in the USA economy...also add in the fact a lot of home buyers bought homes they could not afford.

This will affect the stock markets for a long time as the indicators for a robust economy are reflected by this....it will take a long time for thw system to flush away the garbage....and it will be a long painfull process.

I've not been following this thread but, FWIW, I have been investing in energy related companies. I purchased some RIG (Transocean) when it was beaten down because of the Gulf spill and it is really paying off now. I'm also in a number of junior gold companies. Two in particular I like are CMM (Century Mining) and GNH (Golden Hope). Both have had wild, but overall, very positive years to date.

Here is a bit of a pump about GNH for anyone interested:

GNH was also discussed on BNN yesterday. See this clip around 3:35:

One other thought that came to mind today

Assuming - that most of the men in this hobby probably make a good dollar (to purchase the services that they enjoy), thus you could assume that some of these people probably hold senior/executive positions in their place of employment, or if not in management, may be in a position of knowledge....

- In saying that, they probably come into contact with lots of information that could be considered "good" trading info...mergers/acquisitions/buying/selling, etc (just to name a few).

This thread could be a place to share that info...why?

1) We're all anonomyus to each other....nobody could call it "insider" trading because none of us know each other (speaking for myself at least!)

2) Information provided is for "educational" purposes only..we don't know if it's truth or fiction

3) We all could gain from such a "sharing" of information...nothing is a guarantee, but it doesn't hurt to try.

On the other hand, I'm sure that the ladies on the board also hear things in their travels...they talk to a lot of people in their line of work and they could also share what they hear.

Thoughts/feedback??

Interesting idea Cruiser. Not sure what my thoughts are on this, I guess you'd be putting your faith in a lot of anonymous posters, which can at best be speculative.

another interesting idea, at least I think it is, is that I read the Economist religiously and they often have a science & tech section where many break through ideas are presented, such as new ways to detect cancer quicker, one group of scientist discovered a way to extend the lives of various cells, thereby allowing emergency physicans to have more time to save those in critical condition and perhaps in the future extend longivity. About 6 months after I read that article, CNN did a feature story on this very topic.

Investing in these type of ideas at the grass roots would be worth considering.

This is the time to miss Alin and his wisdom, anybody getting annihilated by the markets recently? Think Juniors mining and gas are at a good price...Almost time to get back in on uranium.
Just been buying XEG on the TSX in the last couple of weeks...under $15 a share is a steal IMO if you think the world economy will recover...somewhat...

I like the idea of regular income...thus I prefer dividend-paying stocks...Jim Cramer's favourites (18 slides).

If there was an investment advisor out there that was always right, we'd all follow him and we'd all be wealthy...Madoff had a bunch of wealthy followers for a long time too, and we all know how that eventually turned out.

Even Warren Buffet isn't always right but I think Berkshire Hathaway is doing pretty well, all things considered...

Let's just say that it pays to do our research...

Actually most people in the business will tell you to diversify, and those who aren't on commission will usually suggest buying exchange traded funds, because they are very diversified products and they're dirt cheap, relative to most alternative products.

If someone wants income there's exchange traded funds for banks, for dividends, for government bonds, for corporate bonds, for high yield bonds, for REIT's etc. and one can also buy into some pretty good first mortgages that pay about 9% if you know where to look.

Berkshire Hathaway barely outperforms a 30 year US Treasury Bill, and the treasury bill is guaranteed. There is a lot of media hype when it comes to Buffet.

Anyone who thinks the average investor today, can do his/her research on a part-time basis and outperform professional fund managers is living in a dream world.

The stock market today, is nothing more than legalized gambling. Best to leave it to the pros, at least the honest ones.
