Driving down a crowded street I see a pedestrian munching a hamburger. He finishes, stuffs the wrapper and napkins into the paper bag, wads it all up and tosses it into the landscaping of a gas station. I was so pissed off I felt like going back and forcing him to pick it up. I mean - he's at a gas station, and there are bins withn 10 meters.

Unfortunately I was in traffic, and decided I didn't need a confrontation with some douche.

How do you get through to people like that?

You can't.
Same as the punks that sit in their rice-burners curb side munching McDonalds- then open the doors and dump all the waste into the gutter and boulevard.
You can't beat respect into these types- as much as you'd like to. And their lazy assed, negligent parents obviously failed as well.

Have you ever tried camping out in the boonies at uncontrolled campgrounds, people have no clue how to behave in the wilderness. There is shit strewn everywhere it really pisses me off, the rule was bring it in take it back out and we always brought out more than we brought in. They also walk away from glowing fires and don't even bother to put it out hence the extreme fires we see these days. It's the same mindset and all traces back to littering and people being ignorant about their surroundings, it's stopped me from bothering going anymore. It's so disheartening that people have such disrespect and feel entitled to do so. Fines and community service to cleanup should be mandatory for those that are caught. This needs to be taught in schools the surrounding neighbourhoods there are choked with litter from students. I remember getting detentions and winding up on garbage detail carrying a can and cleaning up the sidewalks around the school area they need to bring that back but parents will whine.

This type is everywhere. Every morning out front of my office is new garbage from McD's down the street. Probably some pooners too as often used condoms discarded.
I Used to 4x4, as above amazing and disgusting how much crap people just leave behind. One year driving down a regular gravel road, the tree beside gets blown up a bit from some doofus target shooting and had no idea there was an in use road behind his target.
Same will the broken bottles I see in the parks, and still a ton of smokers tossing lit cig's out their car windows.
You can't fix stupid or ignorance.
However after seeing more news today, our neighbors ( spelled incorrectly on purpose) to our south will elect people like this.

I think in this day and age that is outright disrespectful to our Community...what is worse is when I see goofs flicking their Cigarett Butts out the window, I want to ram it back down their throat or flick it back into their car...but common sense tells me to mind my own builsness and don't make any unnecissary trouble for myself...

What about smokers that use the roads as their personal ash tray :-( . There is a fine for littering but have never heard of anyone receiving a ticket for it. I would put a littering tax on cigarettes to fund the street sweepers or make butts a refundable item than the binners would return them for a bit of cash. Corym

I don't think you can get through to them. If you confront them they are either try to escalate it or just do it again tomorrow thinking about the asshole from yesterday. Strange it's not a specific age group either that litter. Before 1st Ave was shut down I saw an old lady flicking a butt out her window. A few cars around her were honking at her and she was oblivious to them.

I'm seeing all sorts of hostility and road rage these days. Usually it's when backed up in traffic because of construction. People get wound up just for someone merging into their lane.
