I loved these little candies called bonkers when i was younger. Not many places have them anymore. They are sorta like starburst!..My mom still sends them to me in my x-mas and birthday care packages from toronto :D

I used to love Jaw breakers. It was a challenge to see if you could chop them in half. :D

Well, we agree on one thing. Now I find them sickeningly sweet and the constant chewing hurts my jaw.

There is a really nice candy store on Broadway just west of McDonald on the north side. I think it is called Candy Isle or something like that. It has a lot of candy that brings back memories from long ago.

That is a nice shopping area. I still like tootsie roll {sweet tooth?} but also
get the jaw effect after eating a few of the small ones.

Does anyone remember a thing like a harmonica or a pan pipe made out of a barely edible wax? You could really play notes on them and when you got tired of playing with them you could eat them.
Yes, I remember those wax whistle. I guess I'm an oldtimer! LOL They were yellow, you could play a tune or so and you could chew on the wax afterwards. Other than making me more vertically challenge and growing a third leg, I think the wax was edible!

Cracker jacks, lucky elephant popcorn, MacIntosh toffee (might be around still), sweet tarts, giant jawbreakers, and those flavored drinks in small waxed tubes are some other fav's.

Kool-Aid, straight from the package. It's the most sourest thing in the whole world!

I remember a group of us kids standing around the corner grocery and we dared "Steve" to dump the whole package of lemon-flavored KoolAid into his mouth. So we watched good ol' Steve pour the whole packet into his mouth, he closed it, his eyes began to swell with water and pop out of his head, his face went completely beet-red (his forehead went purple), yet he managed to swallow, then this huge mess of snot and KoolAid blew out of his nose onto Janice's sun skirt.

I never tried lemon flavor, I liked strawberry - it was still the most sour thing I ever tasted.

Favorite candy

My favorite candy came in a can. I forget the name but it was a little black can with very colorful and very tasty hard fruit-type candies inside.

When I was about 11 years old, I remember a scruffy old bachelor in town that gave them to me but I used to have to go to his place to get them. I found out they were a real pain in the ass to get! :D

Truthfully, my late Dad used to work in Lynn Lake and other areas up north and he'd be away for weeks at a time but when he came home, he always remembered to bring me a can of candies so the memories are very fond. :)

That sounds like Taverner's Fruit Drops. I loved them too!

Sounds like a guy in my Montreal neighbourhood who offered candy in return tor kids touching his dick! He tried that with me when I was about eight, but I ran away.

mystery bar???

I had a favorite chocolate bar as a kid but I can’t remember the name! It was shaped the same as an O’Henry but was more of a white chocolate; it had a wafer bar and coffee flavored filling. The packaging was a clear plastic with white lettering and a black cardboard backing. They were the best. I wish I could remember the name or at least still buy them, I haven’t seen them in at least 15 years.

Very similar to Coffee Crisp in flavor but only with white chocolate.

Anyone remember these??
