What is it like inside a nightclub?

I personally find night clubs completely bullshit. I worked at a club for a short period of time in my younger years.

It’s absolutely nothing like what TV makes it out to be. As far as going clubbing around the world, Montreal was decent, Vegas can be fun, Ibiza is also a joy. With that said, clubbing for men has taken on a sort of egotistical and show-off vibe that is not fun at all.

I highly enjoy well produced raves over a night club any day. Better vibe, much more care and thought put into the production, and a different type of personality. There are no events locally that would be of any interest since they are all in corn fields and barns.

Spain, Germany, UK, Japan, China, Korea, and a few other parts of the world are light years beyond the very best that is local. I love dancing and have done so professionally so I enjoy an open vibe.

Based on the music you like, don’t ever bother trying to go to one, you’ll hate it.

To each their own. It’s also extremely expensive for no reason other than to show off. Vancouver tried its hand at the high-roller club at Trump Tower and it had no market and closed down.

Will be interesting to see how that scene changes post COVID. I cannot see how it will survive in its old form.

In my late teens and early 20's there was a country bar that was in my area and I spent a fair amount of time there. It was classed as a "night club" at least as far as Winnipeg goes, but it really wasn't anything like what you see on TV or in movies. It was basically just a vaugly themed and loud place to go and have a bunch of drinks, dance and try not to go home alone.

I never went to the bar alone and usually would go with a smaller group of people that always included a few girls. I always found it wierd when you would see a guy or a group of guys that would come to the bar and just stand on the sidelines drinking their budwieser or rye and coke staring at girls and never getting within 20 feet of the dance floor. My biggest recommendation is if you want to go to a bar to try and meet someone for the night definitely learn to or become comfortable dancing.

Stopped going to "night clubs" in my mid 20's and really hadn't ever been back in one until about 2 years ago. I went to the beer vendor around midnight on a weekend and the bar was right next door so I figured what the hell and decided to go in for a drink. The crowd was almost entirely made of up people in their late teens (should have guessed that) and being over 30 I felt like a total creep being in there. It was a quick drink and a thought of never again.

I have never been inside one simply because by the time I arrived in Canada, settled down and had a decent job to afford nightclubs, I was already married, had kids and I was well past that age. I would've liked to take one look inside just to check it out. Not just that, then I had not even been inside even a strip bar till I was close to my 50's. Pooning followed soon after that!

Talk about a man who had a boring adulthood. A late bloomer, in another term. Which would be more of a consolatory word.

Best to see it first hand. It looks like most of us have grown out of the night club demographic.

The Kingsway. Wasn’t the biker gang that hung out there the Rebels? The Riv had bands and Convention Inn south did as well.

Yes, the Rebels hung out at the Kingsway. It was rougher. I definitely had a lot of fun there though, not sure why as I was more of a gent, just felt good hanging there. The Riv though, that was the huge bar. I think I read somewhere capacity of 1200. Back in university, we'd head there Thursday night, get shitfaced, meet some delectable coed and take her out for the weekend. Then, thinking more about those 70's places, and putting that into perspective, there was always ego involved. You know strutting the stuff, guys trying to prove their dicks were bigger, cars were nicer. Gals being picky to feed their egos. I tried to cut through the shit early. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not but what the hell, this was a fun time, I was young and so was everyone else.

It all got lost somewhere along the way, there, here, many places. Too bad - the younger amongst us didn't get to experience that. I guess one plus for being of a more 'mature' age.

Or maybe I watched this short CBC documentary a few weeks back on the demise of nightclubs in Vancouver and Toronto over the last 15 years. Worth a watch.

Well back in the day ...
Think the Anchor, Dicks on Dicks, etc, these were pretty fun spots. Guys and gals out having fun. And if you were 'right' well you could get lucky.
Prior to that I took part in the really big bar scene. Anyone from Alberta remember the Kingsway,? 1000+ folks under one roof. Can't recall the other one on the south side of Edmont, but I do remember 3 bands playing that one room one at each end, one in the middle.
I can't remember the last time I set foot in what would be considered a night club - does the Commodore count? But those were places where I had a blast, met a lot of folks and my fair share of women who also wanted a good time.
I think many folks who hang out here, regardless of age would have had as much fun as I did in all those great old places.

I know the Alberta bar scene quite well and can tell you the Kingsway Tavern did not hold 1000+ people. The largest tavern in Western Canada was the Westgate in Calgary that had an occupancy of 400. The tavern on the Southside of Edmonton would have either been the Riviera of the Regency. Most taverns were downsized in the mid-late 70's to stem the notion of neighborhood pubs cutting into the hotel association revenues.

The question in the thread title is too vague to properly answer, it's like asking, what are sports like? There's many different types, but here are some common features:
-overpriced drinks
-dim lighting
-usually has a VIP section for those willing to pay a premium to look over the dancefloor while (usually) getting bottle service
-hormones at 11 and dudes ready/looking to fight for no reason
-loud music
-filthy bathrooms that get filthier as the night goes on
