What does it mean when a SP suddenly raises her rate from $300 to $600?

As I look at my non-phone keyboard, the 6 is right above the 3 on the number pad. Could be a simple fat-finger mistake if she's used to typing numbers with the pad.

If you're interested, why not shoot her a text to confirm the rate. If it's actually $600 and that's too much for you, say "Thank you, I'm afraid that's outside my budget, have a nice day!" And leave it at that.

I know a lady who raised her rates to $300 from $180 as soon as she became independent because that way she would screened a lot of unwanted guys out and reduce the amount of emails/useless inquires.. She has already established an amount of regulars, that she will prefer seeing, than newcomers. Still she does some postings to let her regulars know that she is working, and also takes a few new costumers without overworking herself.

I had a very similar situation a few days ago. The girl's not advertising publicly so not the same as OP meant

Me: "Would you like to meet again"
She: "Yes, but I raised my price. 600 minimum"
Me: "How does that work? I imagine it's not 1 hr, is it"
She: "2 hr minimum :)"

So, it was just a poor communication/promotion on her part, since it was not even an increase of the hourly rate. Probably some crossover from the SB world, where they think in terms of "per meet" amount.

I also like the above theories about a typo, or about an artificially high hourly 600/hr when 2 hr are say 750.

its possible she wants to slow down the traffic and has promised the regular rate to regular customers

the new ones who are prepared to pay the new rate are no doubt welcome but far fewer I would imagine

As has already been said an independent worker (in any field) can charge what they want. When I was operating my own business (outside of sp work) I checked out the industry standards and pretty much low-balled myself (like Missing One) because I was new to the buis and didn't feel I had the experience to demand higher. I quickly learned my worth was much more, hence raised my rates and gained great new clients who saw the value (and who were actually easier to deal with than the lower paying clients).

Personally I know of one lovely young lady in the sp world who doesn't need to do this for money, she's experiencing a whole new side of her sexuality and creative life and charges a high rate because she can.
