Something one can never pinpoint
I'm asking this question because I think that people have very different ideas of what constitutes a "friend". What qualities in a relationship constitute "friendship" and how have your ideas about friendship changed over time and what experiences have you had that have effected your understanding of friendship? Simply , if you look at online definitions, A friend is someone one knows, like, and trusts. Conventional wisdom suggests that good friendships enhance an individual's sense of happiness and overall well-being.
What parameters/boundaries contain/define your friendships?

A lot of people call acquaintances "friends" just like a lot of people mistake lust for "love"

The world is divided into:
Family
- you learn to live with them
Acquaintances
-Work
- - the people you drink with on Friday
-Neighbours
- - the people that have your lawn mower and weed eater
-Members of your Association/Club/Team
- - the people that you drink with after the game/meeting
Friends
- the people that will talk to you at 2 in the morning
Spouses
- the reason you are phoning a friend at 2 in the morning

A good friend will bail you out of jail. A really good friend will be in the same cell high-fiving you for an awesome night out.

For me, I think someone who steps up when u need them to be there for u. Even though it may be inconvenient for them or they may not even really like what u want to do, but they go anyways.

When you know they will pay you back when you loan them money and when they are willing to help your tennis game by hitting to your backhand for hours.
I actually don't know, its not my forte in life having people around.

When you can say whatever you want tonight because you know you will still be friends tomorrow. They are just someone who, through destiny and fate, has become a part of your life.

you find out who your REAL friends are when you break both your wrists.

A true friend is there for you when you need someone to listen to your problem no matter how pathetic it might be.
They will also tell you the truth about how they feel about something because they know your friendship will with stand any ill will to anything you might say or do. That to me is what friendship is all about.
A friendship will withstand any illwill? I dont know about that... Ill will isnt ssomething that true friends should ever have to be concerned about. There is something to be said for consideration of another's feelings. Sometimes what your version of the truth is is not worth sharing. I have opinions about some of the cjoices my friends make but I respect them enough as people to not interfere with their own journey. If my opinion is solicited from them however and I think that it might be useful to them, I will certainly share it . But "anything goes" is, in my opinion , unrealistic. SWe should all know what is personally acceptable and choose friends thathave similar expectations.

A true friend is someone will do whatever I say, whenever I say it, without question. Even if it means killing millions of innocent people. Well, if not millions, at least one or two. Needless to say, I don't think I've ever had a true friend, sadly.

Not how I feel, but I remember a buddy of mine at a soccer party who said "a true friend is one who sux and fux and turns into a six pack and pizza at midnight". One of those comments that sticks in your mind, for some reason. I don't drink beer and very rarely eat pizza, but the other attributes don't sound so bad ..;)

No, this is a minion:

Anyone else think Despicable Me 2 should be the prototype for a horse designed by committee? Bad movie.

Anyways, I guess it's true what they say about assuming. My response was meant to be taken facetiously friend. :thumb:

A friend or friendship is:

A person with whom you have common interests/goals
Someone with whom one has a strong and deep connection
A person one is excited to talk to when receiving a call/text or email
Someone who you can confide in and share your deepest and darkest secrets because you know you can 100% trust them
Someone whose company one seeks out
Someone who you know always has your back
Someone who will not betray you or sell you out for their own personal or financial gain
Someone with whom you have a reciprocal relationship when it comes to giving and taking
Friends helps out each other without an expectation of receiving something in return
Friends aren't obligated to each because of money, social standing, power etc
A friend will be there for you during your deepest and darkest time without any hesitation
A friend will always put the friendship ahead of their personal wants/needs
A friend doesn't make selfish choices that can have a detrimental impact on the friendship
Friends add to your life by steering you in the right direction by helping you make positive changes in your life
Friends don't impose their morals or values on each other - they accept each other unconditionally
Friends don't turn their back on you when the friendship no longer "suits them"

And most importantly: A friendship that can cease was never real to begin with.
