What about Ruutu?

I actually liked Ruutu from Day 1 when he was constantly in Crawford's doghouse. In my opinion, I think he was a bargain compared to Cooke. I think he is a better agitator who is bigger than Cooke and also has better hands. 50 has always bitched about players who wear visors who play a tough man or agitator role - Ruutu doesn't wear a visor whereas Cooke does. I for one am going to miss the chants of "Ruuuuuuuuuuutuuuuuuuuu" at GM Place this season.

Good on Jarkko to get a healthy raise from the Penguins. I still can't believe that Nonis signed Cooke to that inflated contract - who in their right mind would trade for Cooke with that ridiculous contract??

Let the opinions start flying! :D

didn't Cooke get his 'deal' through arbitration?

Rutuu potted a few goals, but had a bad rep for getting penalities (deserved or not) and while he was fun to watch at times, this team doesn't need the extra penalty minutes.

I would rather have seen Cooke go than Rutuu, but neither one will be a great loss if they both go.

Nope, it was a contract negotiated by Nonis. After taking below market, in Canadian dollars in his last contract, Cooke and his agent got wise and strong armed the rookie GM to a inflated contract.

I know that they are headcases at times but, I would much rather see Sean Avery or Matthew Barnaby here instead of Cooke.

Ruutu was second last season in the LEAGUE for most penalty minutes......good riddance, being an agitator is one thing, but constantly putting your team down by a man is another.......I will miss his penalty shot though..

Cooke...he held out last season during the pre-season and signed a contract so there was no arbitration....he was not in shape last season due to his hold out and had about 3 freak injuries as well....lets wait and see how he does this season....

I agree that he took some dumb penalities, but I also believe that some of those penalties were called by the refs because of his reputation. If you want to talk about dumb penalties, what about Bertuzzi? He took a lot of stupid penalties, especially when we were on the powerplay. Actually, so did Naslund from time to time.

I never did like Cooke from when he was drafted in the 6th round (144) in 1997, but I guess he is what you could call a success to be a regular with the Canucks so yes, let's see what he does this season with Ruutu gone.

Canucks dumped the top 3 penalty getters last season. Ruutu, Bert & Allen. Plus we lose Jovo's fighting ability. I wonder if the nucks this season are going to be a bunch of pussies!
Jovo's fighting ability? How often did you ever see him fight?..How often did you see him win?

I doubt he'll be back. Word is he ruffled some feathers when he shit in someone's helmet.
Really?!?? That's disgusting. Did he do that to a teammate in Philadelphia?

Bring the DONALD back

I thought he got traded due to the little brew hah hah he caused in the gym, located in his apartment building. Didn't someone grab his girlfriends ass or something to that effect? It appeared in the newspaper and T.V.. Guess Brian Bruke didn't like the negative press the team was getting so he traded him away. Sounds familiar?
