Wait times for Surgey

The worst of surgery isn't the surgey itself but the ridiculous wait times to get a surgey. In Alberta it's 8 - 12 weeks for an elective procedure. I hope to get my surgery finally in April. It's so aggravating to have to wait for so long when your condition is reasonably serious and effecting your quality of life.

If I knew how bad the wait times are in Alberta, I would have been fighting a lot harder for us to build more hospitals in Alberta

How are wait times for elective surgeries in BC? Are you guys waiting just as long for procedures?

Depends on the surgery and the circumstances. My last 3 surgeries the wait times were less than a week. In one case, an ER visit for a non - life threatening issue albeit a painful one, resulted in a specialist appointment the next day, surgery the day after that.

MRI scan at private clinics are at least $1000 per scan.. and MSP will not cover any of it.
Many people get stuff (e.g. medical, dental) done offshore, such as in India & Thailand.

Get it done with less or no waiting & cheaper than they'd pay in their home country (e.g. USA, Canada).

True, it is most likely faster outside Canada...but where's all the taxes that we pay go to?

I read someplace that something like 20 billion dollars is spent on Type 2 Diabetes which is pretty much avoidable with a good diet & healthy lifestyle. That's just one example of where taxes go. As a society we take poor care of our health. The result is poor health equates to more illness which costs money. The problem is going to get worse with the double whammy of aging Baby Boomers & "Generation Pizza Pocket". On the plus side the Millennials seem to have taken a real interest in good food & healthy lifestyle.

In Alberta, we have an idiot mayor in Calgary that wants to bid for the Winter Olympics when we need a build a bunch of new Hospitals in Alberta.

it goes to the first and last yrs of peoples lives

the majority of Health care dollars are spent on the young and the old

are you making 35-50% or so more than you were 15yrs ago? look at the 2013-16 in the first, then the 2001-03 in the second

https://www.una.ab.ca/collectiveagreements/salaryappendix

https://www.una.ab.ca/files/418/Appendix_of_Nursing_Salaries_in_Alberta_1948-2017.pdf

now multiply that over the whole system, little wonder where the money goes

just like every other level of Gov't, we've gone from Good stable jobs with OK pay and benefits along with a decent pension

to making top 5-10% wages/benefits/pensions, that the average person can only dream of

you never get VFM when there's a monopoly, plain and simple

and your delusions about the millennials is funny (the hippies were going to revolutionize the world too, lol)
