Last week, I was having this conversation with a group of co-workers about drinking and we started to talk about Vodka.

Vodka is my drink of choice. Mainly because (I was told) that it is hard to detect on a person's breath and personally I also feel that it leaves the least hangover. Also, after drinking Vodka that after taste and after smell the next morning is not as bad as some other drinks.

I was also told that gin is the same way. But I have almost zero experience with gin.

I have never tried to check anyone's breath after drinking Vodka. Besides, it is hard to detect alcohol on another person's breath when you are have been drinking yourself. , I do feel there has to be some odour. Online research gives me conflicting reports. Some people say it smells like hand sanitizers, which it does, when you open a bottle. But I am not sure if that's true when it comes to someone's breath.

So, does Vodka (and gin) really not smell? Have you ever detected them on anyone's breath?

I don't know if vodka smells on the breath as I never seem to get that close to vodka drinkers, but I can certainly smell it as an alcohol out of the bottle or in a glass left out overnight.

yes it does. a person drinking vodka or gin smells like it....it will come out of your pores as well as be on your breath...it's a sweet distinct odor...but yes, you can smell if a person has been drinking vodka more than if they have been drinking beer.

love susie

I've been trying some of the local and BC micro distillery vodka and I'd say it depends a lot on the botanicals used in the production of the alcohol.

Off the top of my head, a few use BC grown fruit, one uses BC grown honey and another uses a vegetable mix. In the case of the fruit and honey versions, I can sense the aftertaste of the botanicals. Vodka even Grey Goose has a distinct smell to me.

Speaking of...East Van Vodka is pretty great. Quite a distinct taste in terms of vodka.

She does seem to make my eyes sting at times...
Oh Hey Claire

Speaking of Vodka and East Van, what was that brand that you and I tried on the morning of Oct 27, 2014? :) I have been wracking my head, but....... can't remember. It tasted pretty good and it did give me a good buzz, or may be it was you who left me weak in my legs.

:)

Come to think of it, Vodka DOES lack Taste, compared to beer or say merlot or can sav.
tim, you really gotta stop drinking that canned salve - THAT'S what's burning your throat!!

Beverly Hills. In the Kitchen eatin' vittles.
Vodka does have a smell but it is not as obvious as let's say beer, scotch, rye or rum. The taste and smell are also more easily masked with other ingredients in your drink.
It can definitely be detected on one's breath, especially by trained law enforcement personnel.
That's why if I am at a business lunch and have a drink or am going to see an SP after going for a couple of drinks with buddies I usually drink vodka.

Cheers

According to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives—which sets the rules for spirits sold in the United States—vodka is defined as a neutral spirit "without distinctive character, aroma, taste or color."

lol it was Eastvan vodka.

Vodka can be used as a cleaning agent. Once it dries it's odourless. It definitely does have an aroma to it if consumed though as others have said less strong than other alcohols.

No no, it was something else. Gosh, can't remember. You told me you can only get it from that distillery around Commercial and Hastings!
