oh yeah... and hank, about two weeks ago i had a filipina tell me that she was a 'flip'. i didn't comment but i thought there was a lady who had no hang-ups about race

see ya :)
So is it now the fault of other Filipinos if they get offended when you refer to them with that term?

Should you now be advising the rest of the Filipino community to deal with their "hang-ups about race" and just accept the words you'd like to use to refer to them.

You really are full of wisdom, o wise one!

While I agree that the race card is played far too often in modern society I think the term "Jap" has been clearly established as being a derogatory term. This may or may not have been the OP's intent; only he would know for sure.

What is interesting to me is how the nuance of various terms can fall in and out of favour. For example "Polack", which is merely an anglicized version of Polak, meaning a Polish person. I think at one time Polack may have been a neutral term but over the years it has come to have a derogatory connotation to it and the term "Pole" seems to be the acceptable modern version.

You BIGOTS and the rest of your kind do not have the right to determine what is and isn't offensive to people.

While some will not mind being referred to with any of those words you mentioned, others still do and it is out of respect to them that you avoid the use of these derogatory terms.

Peace:

both sides are right: From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

-“Jap is an English abbreviation of the word "Japanese."

-"Today it is generally regarded as an ethnic slur" although English-speaking countries differ in the degree to which they consider the term offensive."
-"In Singapore[11] and Hong Kong,[12] the term is used freely as a contraction of the adjective "Japanese" rather than as a derogatory term."
-“The Australian news service Asia Pulse also uses the term.[13] In 1970, the Japanese fashion designer Kenzo Takada opened the "Jungle Jap" boutique in Paris”

I am also sensitive to derogatory abbreviations and it is not an abbreviation I would use, and would prefer it not to be used, however, reading the dictionary, it seems to be mostly an issue of intent and/or location of user, when using that abbreviation. Since the original poster prefaces his abbreviation by referring to a smoking hot body, it is doubtful he was intending it to be derogatory. It may well be the original question asker originated from Hong Kong or Singapore or is otherwise a non English speaking (as a first language) person and is not versed on nuance -after all we are a nation of immigrants.

Like Wikipedia and the Houston Chronicle....

LOL no kidding.

But in all fairness the quotes he used were completely neutral.......oh wait, he didn't have any quotes to support his claims.
Right, nevermind then. :pound:

I agree with the rest of your post however I don't think that referring to a smoking body means anything about whether he intended it to be derogatory. He still could have meant it either way.

Enough of the soft language. Political correstness has gone too far! All this guy wanted to find out was if anyone had seen a particular ad for this particular Jap/chick.

Too many soft terms:

When did "hooker" get replaced by "service provider??? Remember The Happy Hooker?
When did toilet paper become "bathroom tissue"?
The "blind" have become the "visually impared".
"Disabled people"? Whats wrong with the word cripple? Nothing. Some guy in a fairy tale healed a whole bunch of cripples.

So, lets get back on topic. Does anyone know where to find this Jap Hooker?

P.S. If and when you get offended, pretend you're watching TV, and switch channels, or turn it off.

Hey, the one thing that the cowboy was correct about was that English is a dynamic language and that words do change. "Political correctness" is only one reason, and not a bad one.

Former Senator Rick Santorum has found this out, and it will prevent the success of his campaign for President that he announced today.
