I am visiting Vancouver and while I have been here in the past, I wonder what one can do in this season / weather in Vancouver without venturing too far from downtown. I am a healthy eater and I like the outdoors, but outdoors and food / drinking aside, I'm wondering if there are any less touristy activities the locals know about which I can get into while here, with my female friend... any suggestions guys? :)

Tomorrow after Remembrance Day Ceremonies are done all them young fellers in uniform will be heading to their various unit messes.....and they'll be drinkin' and eatin'......and visitors are welcome.......just a thought. I'll be starting at Seaforth and finishing at the Engineers.

After the Remembrance Day ceremonies, the Circle Craft Christmas market begins tomorrow at the Vancouver convention center, if your into that. Then go up the street to mink chocolates Cafe for hot chocolate or dessert :)

Agree with Silklover re: Gastown or Granville Island. Fly Over Canada at Canada Place is neat. Walk Seawall at Stanley Park. Fox Cabaret on Main has fun retro dance nights on Fridays. The microbrew pubs are popular. Lots of hipster eye candy for boys or girls at Tap and Barrel Olympic Village or by Canada Place. Main St hip eateries. Know it's further off but Richmond Olympic Oval has a pretty nice gym (or Club 16 at the Waterfront across from Canada Place for corporate eye candy).

I'm sure that you would have plenty of gentlemen volunteers to show you around :)

walking the seawall from Coal harbour to False creek will be about 2 hrs. If you continue to walk to Olympiv village add another 20 min. Lot's of coffee stops along the way!
If you don't want to walk rent a bike.

Have oysters at Rodneys in Yaletown, or have wine and Charcuterie at Flying Pig Yaletown. Or sushi at Minami in Yaletown.

Gastown eats: Tuc, L'abbatoire,

Coal Harbour eats: Cactus Club, Mahoney and Sons, Hapa Izakaya

Denman St eats: Kingyo, Ukrainian Village

Robson St. eats: Nero (belgian waffles OMG nom!),

Some more Activities:

Kayaking False Creek
Yoga at Y Yoga (vancouvers hottest girls practice here)
Shopping at Nordstroms and Holt Renfrew
Take Canada Line to Richmond for shopping at Premium Outlets
Cirque du Soleil at Science World

Scotch and Wine at my hot tub!

healthy eating and outdoor enthusiast…
why not do the Grouse Grind in the am, cap morning off with
a good coffee/breakfast.

afternoon…more leisure outdoor activities.
must agree w others…nothing tops a walk around Stanley Park seawall (rain or shine for me anyway)
it's 10km long and a brisk walk should take you 45min-60min to complete if you're
in decent shape…15 mins if you go the two-wheel route.

if you're into clothes shopping, Nordstroms is actually a good store to experience.
great selections and lots of eye candy to keep you occupied.
Gastown is also good for boutique shops for men. then more coffee at either
Revolver or Prado. fantastic place to people watch.

and when the evening comes, treat yourself to a massage with HE.
though you may have to venture a bit further east for selection.

enjoy your stay stv.

Welcome STV,
Outdoors: Like others have suggested - get a bike. Take in the waterfront anywhere from Coal Harbour to Spanish Banks (Note: walking the seawall around Stanley Park alone takes 90-120 minutes, cycling around 25 minutes - ignore the faster time estimates, they are simply wrong).
To experience a snapshot of nature, explore either Pacific Spirit Park, Stanley Park or, farther afield but accessible by transit, Lynn Creek up to the headwaters (there is even a free untouristic suspension bridge - Capilano's is the definition of a tourist trap).

Neighbourhoods: Move quickly through Gastown to the Down Town East Side, Chinatown (only East of Main), and then either: (1) up to Main Street south of 5th Ave all the way to around 33rd Ave, or (2) ride through Strathcona to Commercial Drive south of Adanac to Broadway. You could also do a loop west along 10th Ave to get to Main.
If you want to see our dying India town its centered around Main and 49th, Viet town is along Kingsway.

Indoor suggestions: Museam of Anthropology, Art Gallery or Aquarium (although I personally oppose their keeping of large marine mammals in captivity).

Other: microbreweries, distillers and dispensaries.

Saddle up, helmet optional, and take in the city! CC

I like going to the Museum of Anthropology, especially on rainy days, although it's not that close to downtown. The Vancouver art gallery is also good.

In Lust Mostly
Power Walk the Seawall, drop by the Aquarium especially on a rainy day to view the Beluga's (early morning is best as they are quite playful) and time your day to have lunch at the Teahouse.

Visit Deep Cove in North Vancouver, hike up Quarry Rock on a clear day to get views of Indian Arm, coffee and very guilty Chocolate Doughnuts at Honey's or a nice lunch at Arm's Reach Bistro.

Power Walk the West Van Sea Wall, Coffee at Delaney's in Dundarave or get a nice inexpensive lunch at Whole Foods in Park Royal's Village.

Take part in a Microbrewery Tour

Via Bus, bike etc haha can you imagine?

Or have a date with BBB and get a personal tour anywhere from Hope to Whistler ;)

Too bad I'm not in town for Saturday for Fox Cabaret dance party! But really thank you for suggesting FlyOver Canada, wow, that was really great. It was so worth the ticket only $20.
It's such a rainy and windy day today, I think I'm staying in for now :)
