I just got back from the new Simon's Store at Park Royal. Total waste of my time. Every garment that was supposedly in my size was for a very skinny metro guy with an eating disorder ( J K ).

Absolutely ZIP for me to wear or potentially buy from them. I'm certain they only sell to Male runway models lol

Where is your go to place to get work friendly casual clothes, semi dress pants / shirts (No Tie required) and a decently priced suit that is a quality garment without it costing my pooning allowance for three weeks?

It seems all my go to places have closed their doors to the big box guys and I won't be shopping at Mr Big and Tall and the like.

I just need some refreshing to the wardrobe. Tommy Bahama has a great selection of good casual clothes but I'm looking for stuff a bit above that in smart casual vs casual.

Ideas for a bigger guy?

I go to Moore's, Work Wear house with great success. The Bay occasionally will have something, their shirts especially. I am a pretty big guy. Have yet to check out Nordstrums, but am hopeful.

Thanks!

I used to have good success at Nordstrom's in Bellevue Wa.

I'll check out our new store :D

^ was going to suggest nordstroms. Harry Rosen is my other go to store. Holt Renfrew seemed to change their focus on higher end fashion once nordstroms moved in which is a shame. But for casual I'd definitely recommend Nordstroms, their service is excellent, from what I've experienced thus far, and if you can't find a size they will try to source it for you and ship it directly to your door no charge.

Maybe I can find something to fit there. I find it damn difficult finding stuff and really don't want to shop in the boys section... ;) Thanks for alerting me.
Bespoke tailoring in Asia is often the best, though they typically don't have the selection of fabrics I like... and I don't get there often enough to do it now.

Harry Rosen makes pretty good made to measure suits. As well made as Armani or Hugo Boss in my experience but better fit obviously.

Ummm.... I'm not sure if that is a compliment, but I'll take it as such :)
Lets say that my son is taller than me and still buy's in the kids section...
But really, I'm not THAT short... just a little below average (in height).
Just messing with you HG

This drives me crazy!!
I am a 46 chest 34 waist...Everything is too short in the waist......I mean, I'm not a giant, but when I'm told to dress "Like the kids do"..And not tuck my shirt in ,everything is too short.
I have a flat stomach, and I like to tuck my shirt into my Wranglers....I'm not a guy who likes to show his Plumbers crack........Everything I try on is tailored too damn short for a longer waist.
Sleeve length doesn't concern me ,because I always roll up my sleeves....I'm told I have nice forearms..But everything you buy is made for a Dude with a pot belly, which I don't have.

I'm almost 6'8" and range between 230-240. I get almost all my clothes in the states.
Everytime I am in Vegas I will get some clothes. Nordstroms is very good. Eddie Bauer, Ralph Lauren has a lot of selection and sizes.
In Canada not much option. For shirts its basically XXL and that covers all tall men and fat men......like we are all the same.
I have to buy the same shirt as the guy who is 5'8" and 300 pounds. Its too loose around my tummy and makes me look fatter and if it is long enough for me to tuck in, looks all baggy

Being a guy who is I suppose larger it's been an ongoing thing over the years to get fitted properly for casual and more dressy clothes.

I don't really care or want to emulate guys who are 30 years my junior. I do like to look stylish and be age appropriate with the clothes I wear socially and in my biz connections.

6'2" 250 lbs on a good day :)

The number of WOT stores is steadily increasing. Dunns is now set in this generation without any remorse. I used to buy 2 suits a year from them at $1500 or more a pop. Now they would prefer to sell less $ for more volume per sale ok.

Three other shops in City of Van were good but times change and they gave into Big Box sellers.

Now all I want is a small shop who is in it to sell clothes at a reasonable to more upscale clientele.

Times are changing again.

Just say No to Big Box again.

If I buy a workshirt made in China, and I start lifting bales off the field, or peeling logs, I almost always rip the back out of an X-Large.
I agree with BCNiel....They are all made for shorter ,wider around the girth guys.

Don't buy anything from China clothing wise especially suits or dress shirts YUCK!
One never knows where the fabric is originally from and only the country of assembly is in the label.

BTW buying from the USA at 33% premium is a bit of a silly choice these days, correct? Most of their clothes are from the same sources as ours.

I still buy USA made clothing for outdoor use like Goretex etc. Top shelf for sure. Our Arcteryx stores have products all from China.

lower mainland.
Try Johnny's European Tailors, 3500 W Broadway.
I'm not certain he still does, but did carry a canadian made line of dress clothing, S. Cohen. Available in a multitude of sizes, including "portly."
And does custom work as well. I've probably got 10 Cohen suits in the closet, decent stuff for the price.

There's a lot more selection on the US side of the border, pricing can be variable. Sometimes a bargain, sometimes not.

I've also heard of a men's warehouse (not the Men's Warehouse, where quality and service can be sometimes mixed) near the Sea-Tac airport, the name of which escapes me. Obviously, I've not yet shopped there. When I find the name, I'll post.

the good news is... i am exceedingly glad to be able to report that due to a very serious weight loss program, i have gone from 6'2 220 lbs back to my high school weight of 180 lbs! :high5:

the bad news is... my clothes don't fit any more... :(

i sort of look like a scarecrow now, but i've never felt better in a long, long time. basically the program was pretty simple - portion reduction, sweet tooth denial and an equal part of iron discipline when the hunger pangs set in. i've even managed to lose say 95% of my visceral fat, which has freed up my metabolism substantially

now, where you saying to buy clothes for bigger (or my case taller) dudes?

talk about diverting pooning funds :fear:

Badger......Really?......I don't own a suit, and my dress shirts are Roper, Wrangler, or Stetson....
My tie hanger doesn't have one in it..It's just a handy place to hang my massive collection of leather belts.
Now try and find a pair of boots made in North America...They are ALL made in China now..
