@the Meat Market!!!lol
Hello everyone!

Here we go again!

I am posting to let everyone know that if you care about preserving poontopia, vote for Kennedy Stewart!! Of all the candidates he is the one who we are sure will not jump on the "Human Trafficking" band wagon and throw our non-enforcement policy out the window!

For those who don't know, we have lowest level of enforcement from police and non enforcement form the City of Vancouver against massage parlors and sex work generally. This does not apply to illegal activities - youth - but protects us all for the past 11 years.

So please, get out and vote!!

If you are unhappy with city council and their approach you can vote for any councilors you like but as mayor we need to keep Kennedy!!

happy to answer any questions people have!

There is no question. Some Mayoral Candidates are calling for a Citizen oversight for Sex Work and that is not a good thing

Which ones?

Viewing it as an outsider, I still dislike Stewart and what he's done / not done in power, but he can't be the only option on this particular issue, so I'm sure those who care would like more specific info.

If Vancouver was Poontopia instead of a minefield, we wouldn't need this board.

And I wonder how many SPs are willing to pay full taxes on their income in support of decriminalization.

Oh, by the way, this "Decriminaiize SW petition" is making the rounds too.

Online petitions are fluff, but as long as there is one to sign supporting SW's ...

This isn't really about sex workers paying taxes ... it's about protecting the Client.... you.... from enforcement of the criminal code.....

Agreed on all of the above about Kennedy but do you really think Ken Sim will be better...? Some candidates as was mentioned above are fighting for the VPD to enforce the criminalization of buying sex here....

In truth, it doesn't really affect me.... as an sp..... i am not really the one criminalized so....

vote or don't.... call me naïve .... it's your safety we are talking about....

Burnaby, home of the straight shooter 😎
Yep, I don't think many pooners limit their activities to Vancouver alone.

And for argument's sake, are SPs really not "affected" if there's a crackdown on pooners?

Even if (and that's a big "if") Stewart was the only one who can/will "protect" (or not fuck with) pooners in Van, some of us prefer not to have tunnel vision. Enough said.

of course not, thus the reason we are in court right now! i am merely offering a suggestion based on the demographic here and my experience working on these issues with the City. over the past 20 years.

Suzi love what you do for the business, but for me it's anybody but Kennedy. I've never seen the City in worse shape. If it keeps going the way it is, I won't make enough money in my business to enjoy this business.

How does Hardwick feel about it? (The "can't decide if Stewart or Sim is worse" candidate.)

For that matter, how do candidates in Burnaby, Surrey, Richmond, etc. fall on this issue? Just as many SWs out there, and frankly more danger of bible-belters getting into power.

Uncle G!!!!! c'mon now!!!

Hardwick is not ideal.....most of the Vancouver Candidates seem ill equipped to handle the issues we are facing.... i will say after 120 years of doing it wrong... more police will NOT help.... we need investment via the province in mental health and other services - it is their job after all - funded by the federales -

I am also a small business owner and understand the issues we face - it's been brutal on the affordability front, the taxation front, the fuel cost front.... yeah.....i don't need to preach to the choir....

whoever becomes our next mayor, i have maintained relationships with the VPD and am hopeful that we will not see backwards trajectory in terms of sex work. The Wally Oppal Commission report was 10 million after 49 women died and 100 million on the investigation.... no one wants a repeat .... no one wants that kind of violence nor the extreme costs associated with it.....

In terms of Richmond, Burnaby etc.... they are all RCMP so not governed by "Police Board" as we are in the City here.... they do not answer to "new mayors" or councils.... they have signed on to lowest level of enforcement so i do not anticipate any extreme changes in that regard. In other words, vote for who you like!!!

please everyone, we have been trying to "police " our way out of these issues for decades. Don't fall for the hype, more police will not solve our problems.

I am not a "defund" person.... I am a decentralize policing services person..... we need to download some services into community policing centers...so that communities can define their safety issues for themselves.... the community where i live is not the DTES... i live in the most diverse community in the city - people from such a wide range of nations and backgrounds i can't name them all.... it's awesome, I a learning to curse in CHinese... learning to drink with the Taiwanese .... hate crimes, domestic violence, elder safety, those are the main issues where i live....

It's clear we need more services and services which are tailored for communities needs....

It's all well and good for Ken Sim to say " I will hire 100 more police officers".... from where? the big problem is there are not enough officers to hire... the justice institute cannot graduate enough students to fill the need and with Surrey starting their own police force - hiring already - the available police officers to hire are few and far between....

So, honestly.... Ken SIm doesn't appear to understand the issues and does not appear to understand police issues either....

Honestly, I think McCallum in Surrey has been ... well, a mess. Legal troubles of his own making, it would seem he's on the way out, unless somehow all his opponents divide the vote there.

He wants to replace the RCMP - understandable, but I don't see how anything less than a single region-wide police force would make any big difference.

He also wants to build Surrey a 60000 seat stadium, which nobody at all was asking for. (First of all, what team do they think would play there?)

Honestly, I think the motivation in Surrey (not just his) is often trying to just out-do the City Of Vancouver on things. Bigger City Hall building than Vancouver (done). Bigger population than CoV (wait and see). Get their police force like Vancouver. Stadium to out-compete Vancouver (even though BC place is almost never at full capacity). Seems absurd. Only the extending of Skytrain makes any sense, and that is very far off with the Langley extension (and UBC) not even done yet.

Thankfully that old asshole is gone, never could understand how he got in again after his last shitshow when Diane watts knocked him off. Linda Hepner originally sided with McCallum to start the Surrey police force now she wants to rescind it after over 400 officers have signed up, this will cost a fortune no matter which way it goes, common sense is gone unfortunately🤷🏻‍♂️
