Too bad they can't ditch Naslund and Morrison. I have nothing against either but they eat up a combined $9+ million in cap room. Not to mention, if the Sedins are the 1st line, you certainly can't afford to have expensive, soft 2nd line or 3rd line players. Don't expect to see the team do any better next year as they both have a year to go and are virtually untradeable. Also, Ohlund sure got old and slow quick, perhaps too old and slow for $3.5 million with Edler and Bourdon waiting for spots and Luongo needing more jam and protection in front of him.

If Nonis can rid them of that combined $12.5+ million burden, watch out. BTW, I believe it was Nonis who signed Naslund and not Burkie.

The best goalie you've ever seen? New to the game, eh? Surely the best goalie the Canucks have ever had.

When the Calgary Flames had a lot of their success when they had Kiprusoff playing like Luongo and they had trouble scoring but as long as they had the one goal lead, that was all they needed. The team did need more offense and started to get guys like Tanguay, Brad Stuart, etc. Now with the more offensive power, they did worse than when they didn't have the guys who were goal scorers. Go figure.

Maybe the Canucks just need to get one or two guys but not a major overhaul.

I think there needs to be some trades.

Luongo is in for a long time. By far the best goal tender we have ever had.

The Twins willl stay because they perform well togther.

I would like to see Linden stay just because he is cool.

I think its time to get rid of Nasland. We have had him for a very long time, just as long as Mark Messier. We have already got rid of the old GM, the old coach. It only seems reasonable to move on completely.

But you are right. Who would we trade for him. Who would get the C. I think Luongo would be a better Captain than anyone else. He is by far the best player on the team. At times through the playoffs I thought he might have a better chance scoring if he actually played as a forward too :)

I've read the spector and Id be very dissapointed if they resign kesler for this figure. I agree there isnt much room in the salary cap and not sure why we signed salo for so many years especially when he constantly gets injured.

Spectors Hockey
"As noted in the Vancouver Sun, Kesler was overpaid at $1.9 million but the Canucks had to pay that figure last summer to prevent him from signing an offer sheet from the Philadephia Flyers. The Canucks still have high hopes for Kesler so they'll likely qualify him for the same number. Now, we're up to $4 million expended. "

Check this out; it will be difficult for the Canucks to acquire UFAs or trade for better players, given their current roster limitations.

i don't know what salo's contract is like (where do I find that info?)
but I wouldn't be surprised to see him packaged in some kind of
deal to move some dead wood ...

Nonis said in an interview that there was a lot of interest in Salo from
other teams so maybe Nonis signed him to trade him rather than lose
him to free agency and nothing.

Since Philly was so interested in Kesler, maybe a deal to take him,
Salo and ??? for ??? (get some size back in trade???)

The bonus is a lot of salary cap freed up by dumping two players.

Salo makes $3.5 million and Kesler makes $1.9 million ... toss in Naslund
and you could free up between $8 and $12 million dollars!!!!

The above quote doesn't sound right. Nonis just signed Salo and there is a no trade clause. Salo at 3.5 is cheap. Can't trade Naslund coz he has a no trade clause as well. You could trade Kesler but the Canucks don't really have a lot of young players so unless you can trade him for another good young player, we'll see. I'd like to see a guy like Horton from Florida but considering we hosed them on the Luongo deal, I don't think they will want to make a trade with us for awhile.

On the TEAM1040 they are talking about morrison having another surgery cause he was injured during this year. So, we might get a tiny bit more scoring from morrison

If they're lucky, maybe Nonis will get Washington to bite as they want a veteran pivot to play with Ovechkin while Backstrom matures.

Finding a centre position is tough and unfortunately, the Canucks are not deep at centre ice position. Morrison is in the final year of his contract so you'd like he'd have a fantastic year when his contract is up and he's to be a unrestricted free agent.

We need more size and grit and though Bertuzzi didn't put up big numbers recently, if we got him for a one year contract for say 1.5 million, shouldn't we do it?

I have been thinking about the Bert thing and this is what I came up with:

After the way the media (not the fans) vilified this guy: staking out his home, putting his $100G chopper on the Province front page, calling him a cancer and dogging his every move. I doubt very much that he will ever play here again.

The fans treated him well. I think he looks smooth this year.
